My 2 kids just inherited my older pc when I upgraded to a bigger, faster one. They are boy 10yrs and girl 8 yrs. So far, they have been satisfied with pc games and now want to graduate to the internet for games and email.

I have a few concerns as a parent.......

#1] recomendations and restrictions that I should apply in regard to their exposure? I've already banned 'grand theft auto' because of the violence and crime encouragement of that game.

#2] would their gamming rob me of bandwidth much? I'm on the 100kbs maxnet and another pc is on line as well, their's would be #3. How much bandwidth do on line games consume??

#3] Any recomendations for exciting, but not too voilent games [preferably educational] that would interest a 10 yr old boy??

Thanks in advance for any feedback

Hi jdguy, my nephew is 12 and plays alot of online games, I can quiz him about it if you'd like but I guess I am assuming their english is fluent enough for online games?

Their English is decent, but they would rather play Thai games, I'm sure. I was just wondering about non violent, non criminal games and the bandwidth they would 'steal' from my rather slow maxnet 100kbps connection??

Here's a few good game/educational sites that I can recommend:

http://www.starfall.com

http://pbskids.org

http://www.thomasandfriends.com

Good luck with limiting the kids' usage of useful sites only!

I wouldn't worry about the bandwidth issue with sites of this type. It tends to be downloading smallish chunks of flash and then playing that game for a while. No big problem with your 100kish to share between 3 computers. i doubt you would notice much of a difference, in general...

There’s a popular Thai website with plenty of kids orientated online games.

Take a look at game.meemodel.com and see if that suits your needs.

I think that there should be parental concern about some games. My little boy is 2. I let him play ABC Animals, which is a great card matching memory game. And now he can recognize many different animals.

Hi Jaidee,

I run game online cafes for thai kids, well all thais..

The most popular and safe games for this age group would be:

http://www.talesrunner.in.th/ fun..

http://audition.playpark.com/ online dancing, won loads of awards

http://www.raycity.in.th/main.html online cars racing fantastic..for kids

Whilst I realise these are not educational they are fun..and harmless..

All the games are free to play and will not take lots of bandwidth as they are all on thai servers and in Thai..

If you need any help feel free to PM

This is an amazing, almost unheard of site, designed for young kids in mind (ages 4-9). It's a safe, secure, educational, and fun place to play. Fantastic for kids of this age.

Click "Play Now" to go into the virtual world of Oville:

www.cackleberries.com

(you might have to copy and paste the link into your browser)

From their website:

The mission of our company and website is to provide children with a safe, fun, and educational environment with which to play online, free from violence, sexuality, and advertising. In today's age of seditious marketing and corrupting products, we want to show parents that there exists a safe alternative for children. Given our mandate and our educational pursuit, it is our firm belief that the Cackleberries Group can make a difference and help foster our teens of tomorrow, today.

My 10 year old boy plays Cabal and SOF whenever he gets any spare money or time thats what all the kids play after school. He would rather play that then any Xbox or play station games. I think its the atmosphere oe the comunity thing
