Today it took 2500+ baht to fill a 3/4 empty tank. Petrol 95 was selling for 45.59 per litre. For those people pricing it in US gallons that is $5.17 per gallon. Higher than most if not all US prices. Still below the UK though.

Yes, corkscrew, good point. The oil is denominated in dollars which are worth less, and the baht is worth even less in dollars than it was about six months ago (12 percent less). Very very expensive, considering that benzene is not very heavily taxed in Thailand.

Why are you complaining??? Buy a car with a smaller engine! Beautiful will cost you....

I do like your cars... Can I borrow either one of them for a week? I will pay for my own petrol... (I dont mind)

Still cheaper here than back home, ltr for ltr...

I did not think corkscrew was complaining, just remarking, and he had a good point. I hear Sierra Leone has the most expensive petrol, and Venezuela has the cheapest.

You have a tank? :o hehe I'm joking. I think you have a merc, if thats your car I see?

How long will that last you? actually, how much do you spend a month on petrol for your car/s?

And yep, still below the Uk, so still ok for now.

Right, PeaceBlondie, I was not complaining....just commenting. People in the US are really grumbling (making it almost an election issue) at $4.25 a gallon when they have a family income of $75k per year. Here people have to pay almost 20% more for petrol.

My tank holds 70 litres....to fill it from scratch would cost about 3,200 baht. That is the equivalent of 6 working days for a Thai making 16,000 per month. In the US that $77.35 fill up might amount to a half day of work for an equivalent worker.

My little SLK (just 4 pistons) is not thirsty.....but this BKK traffic changes everything. :o

Not that much...maybe 20 kilometers per day. Yesterday the RT to Suphanburi ate up 320 k.

Below the UK?????? Uk price is approx. 85 baht per litre :o

However, relatively the cost in Thailand is 10 times higher (taking average earnings into account). A lot of Thais must be really feeling it very hard - especially those (a lot) who choose to drive pick ups and 4 wheels drives etc. Something has to give soon

Hey corky, where have you been? Haven't seen you in awhile....

Yeah I was thinking along a similar line yesterday at the pump. Petrol 95 was over 45 THB/L and I filled up for about 2800 baht on a non-empty tank. I thought to myself how much it must hurt for your average guy to pay these prices, but then again it seems that the demand is pretty price-inelastic -- people have to get to work -- and the traffic seems just as bad as it always was (although I must say that I don't see as many Fortuners driving at mad speed than I once did).

I was also contemplating the fact that petrol prices here haven't really moved in-line with dollar:baht fluctuations...

5 seconds of contemplation complete, I floored it out of the gas station, paid 40 baht for the freeway, and floored it some more... :D

And for those of you who aren't familiar with corky's postings, I find that he enjoys posting what I call "observations that amuse corkscrew." :o

My last fill up for the car was 38.3 baht per liter. That was the first E20 that I have found. So far the Ford Focus likes it. According to the car's computer, it is no different than 95 octane gasoline. It will take a couple of fill ups to determine what the difference is.

Get used to it it is here to stay.

The car must have been the second worst invention of mankind.

Any statistics on deaths and human suffering from accidents?

Just think of immobilised or non-performing assets/capital, most cars don't work more than 1h on 24h

Bicycles, horses and buffaloes will be "in" again reel soon. And I mean this 2008 or 2551 :o

I have filled up my Jazz with the E20 stuff and I can feel the difference in the engine from 91... E20 uses more petrol and the car is slower, it also revs higher and I think that the savings pr. ltr. is gone over a long trip. I do fill E20 sometimes if I only drive in town now but in general I stop to get 91. I really dont care if it costs 4B extra because I feel the car likes it better.

Cars are here to stay, petrol will cost more and people will drive the same, we are to lazy to start walking or feeding the horses!

Is the Jazz's engine E20 certified or did you have the engine modified?

my car drinks 91 Gasohol like a fish. I would rather stay with regular 91 anytime. unless they take it off... then again NGV is good for me.

I don't think it is my imagination but I feel that there are more motorbikes on the road here in BKK. And I used to almost never bicycles on the streets but this past week I have seen several.

I was looking for a recent article I read but failed to find it. The bottom line was the E20 is higher octane than most cars need. If your car does not require 95 octane to start with, the compression is too low to get any benefit from the E20 and performance may actually be worse. In my case, the car actually seems to have more power and runs as well or better than with 95 octane gasoline. I'm really happy to be able to find E20 because finding 95 octane gasoline is becoming difficult.

I had just remarked to the wife the other day that I haven't seen any decrease in Traffic flow in Pattaya even though we have seen a substantial increase in petrol prices.  There may be a few more motorbikes on the road, but I still see a substantial number of Thai drivers cruising around in their cars and trucks.  I had commented many times on the number of people that appear to be driving around during the middle of the day.  There must be a lot of retired Thai's living in Pattaya.

Why all the moans about petrol?????

Think how much for the average THai and think how much in the UK.One should look for increases per annum for everything.I looked at about 5% inflation per year to retire here and i am paying less than a 30% increase so its good news for me and many expats.

They claim that the Honda Jazz can run on the E20... I have used it a few times and I do not like it... My car runs better with 91 than the other things out there...

I like my jazz..

Really, whether we are from the UK, USA, Canada, Oz, etc,., it hardly matters how many drachmas per goatskin it costs to buy petrol back home or in Madagascar. Here in Thailand, it costs about double about what it did a couple of years ago, and the end is nowhere in sight. The fact that our home country taxes fuel at 2,987%, and Hugo Chavez nearly gives it away, is beside the point. In Thailand, about all that matters is.....Thailand.

When this thread was running oil price was 140=-/bbl, oil today 60.-/bbl. This kind of makes me wonder how today's price at pump are being divided up. Has tax increased this much in the past year or is the profit margin higher from refinery to consumer? I noticed that the fall from 72/bbl to 60/bbl over past week was shown at the pump with a 50 stang decrease
