Hi.

One PC XP SP3 (SP3 installed when it was a RC release) receives updates but they only contain the monthly malware removal tool, whereas the other PC XP SP2 receives all available updates.

Obviously the latest MS updates could not possibly have been included in SP3 RC at that time.

So, why don't I get the latest MS updates on the SP3 PC?

Update settings on both PCs are download but let me decide what and when to install.

I would download the final SP3 servicepack and install that on the SP3 pc. That will clear this problem. OR uninstall the SP3 RC and then run microsoft update.

If, at any time, you selected "Do not tell me about this update again" (or words to that effect) when you were prompted to install an update, MS may not inform you of the SP3 update.

If you go to WindowsUpdate.microsoft.com and check for high priority updates, they should tell you everything that you can download - including the ones you may have said "ignore" previously.

Edit:

They actually say:

You've hidden important updates

You've asked us not to show you one or more high-priority updates but your computer might be at risk until they are installed. Restore them now

Click on "Restore them now" to see all updates.

Yes, I think you are right that the SP3 RC version is the problem.

Even when I go to the MS update site no updates appear to be pending. I've never marked anything as unwanted updates.

Will give the un-install SP3 RC option a try and see what happens.

Thanks for all your replies.
