THAI to increase air fares of first, business classes

BANGKOK: -- The Permanent Secretary for Transport and the Thai Airways International (THAI) board president, Mr. Chaisawat Kittipornpaibul (ชัยสวัสดิ์ กิตติพรไพบูลย์), insists THAI will increase its air fares of first class and business class trips due to high production costs and energy crisis. He says the economic class passengers will get fewer impacts despite of energy crisis.

Mr. Chaisawat says THAI has also signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a trade alliance between Thailand and Germany. He reveals that the pact tends to promote Thai agricultural products in Germany and distribute them throughout Europe.

The Permanent Secretary for Transport says Thailand will export products including vegetables and fruits to Germany; likewise, chemical industrial equipments will be imported to Thailand from Germany.

AGAIN! Yes AGAIN! Don't know the mentality of management, but they should be able to tell they are loosing many of their GOLD members to other airlines. Just from the people on this forum, they are loosing dozens of frequent flyers.

Their prices are already very high. And their promotions SUCK.

Depends upon the increase doesn't it? 5% probably won't have an impact, but in excess of 10% will kill the golden goose. I stopped flying TG long hauls 2 years ago because it was cheaper using ANA, EVA and JAL even if it meant the inconvenience of a transfer. The huge savings justified it.

If you are already too expensive, every increase however small has a potential impact. Could be the last drop for a lot of customers.

I've only just seen this . . . well I've already made my decision not to patronage Thai Air again and this just reinforces it.

Unbelieveable . . lets just examine the statement:

THAI will increase its air fares of first class and business class trips due to high production costs and energy crisis. He says the economic class passengers will get fewer impacts despite of energy crisis

High production costs????? What is that supposed to mean? All the long hauls I've been on have already been upgraded seat wise - so what production costs is there?

Energy crisis ermm isn't this supposed to be covered in the tax and fuel surcharges opposed to the fare?

So Economic passenger will get 'FEWER' impacts - what fewer? A price hike is a price hike however they want to word it!

It was nice was it lasted but goodbye Thai Air for good.

Their LHR-SYD fair is still pretty good if it's only 5% up. It would worry me if they start screwing with their ff program though. It's currently quite generous and the main reason I opted for them.

I just had an unpleasant experience with them on a return flight to Hong Kong. I paid for my ticket on the 16th of June which included a fuel surcharge. Upon return, while checking in, I was advised that I had failed to pay the fuel surcharge, I pointed to the cost on my ticket to the agent who replied that it was a new charge. I asked how you could change the price of an issued ticket? The supervisor on duty offered no explanation, just that it must be paid.

At home I did a press release check and on 26 June Thai Airlines raised the price of their fuel surcharge.

Cheeky bastards! I am pretty sure that any increase in fuel surcharges or fares could not be applied to already tickets issued at a lower rate.

I would of been absolutely apoplectic if they had pulled this stunt!

Didn't one columnist in the Post just write that up to 25% of Thai's employees are unneeded make-work or ghost employees. Maybe that has something to do with their growing "production" costs!

no wonder their stock's down to 15 baht, from over 35 baht just a few months ago!

just flew this week to shanghai with first & business practically empty.....service on board was non-existent and seats in business were crappy.. :o

here's a new sales campaign for them.....tg = smooth as sh*t after a bad tom yum meal :D

EVA jacked up their fares from the US recently and now aren't much cheaper than Thai. There used to be a significant difference but not now.

I know that my future flights with Thai will be limited partly due to now living in Thailand and partly the cost/value of using Thai has less attraction.

One thing that I have noticed about first class over the past two years is the reduced level of service, less choice of wines, no caviar anymore and seriously average brandy these days, no more Remy Martin XO.

So they have cut their costs, service and compensated by increasing prices. :o

I'd prefer not to go on holiday at all if it means flying long haul in economy so I'm not bothered.. I just wish they'd bring in premium economy.

Are you saying they have stopped providing them? I loved getting on board being given champagne and getting undressed! My GF still wears some I had from an earlier flight.

You do on Malaysia Air as well in Business Class - was quite surprised returning from Durban that they didn't supply any toiletries. However the service and food was WAY better than I've ever recieved on TG Biz.
