Grinder For Whole Bean Coffee?

Hi,

I prefer to keep whole coffee beans, and grind just before brewing. However, I left my grinder back in the USA (not to mention it's a 110V unit), so I am looking for a reasonably priced grinder that works on local voltage. Both Krups and Braun make them but I haven't seen them around BKK. There are higher-end European machines that use "burrs" (for more control of the grind) rather than blades, but they are larger and heavier than blade grinders.

If anybody knows where to find such a grinder, or knows of a Western Gourmet Food Shop that also sell appliances, please PM me, or post here.

I've seen some of the smaller ones like Krups at the Robinsons here in Udon. But, a little expensive,

between 1600-2000 baht.

I use a blender, cost me around 800 baht. I alternate the speeds from low to high to low, about 10 seconds on each speed. I only grind three tablespoons at a time. Tap the base of the container a few times on a counter top to loosen the grinds.

May take you a few times to figure out the grind you prefer.

I've seen coffee grinders for sale in some large department stores in BKK as well as in Starbucks.

I got an attachment for my Moulinex Odacio 3 blender/food processor called a grinder that will do coffee beans. Make sure it's really a grinder, as there is also a chopper that looks just like it that will only do soft things like onions. Mine came with the chopper, so I had to go to the service shop in BKK and buy the grinder attachment separately. Some brands and models come with the chopper, though.

400 Baht for coffee grinder @ Carrefour. I've been using it for 2+ years now, and hasn't quit. It was made in Thailand but had a German name and literature inside.

I checked, and it's not a German name at all (but the literature IS in German). "Princess" brand. Makes me feel more like a man, everytime I grind some up.

Emporium, Robinsons, or Central. Any of these will have a grindr.
