Gmail has a new option under the "Settings" tab - "Always use https". That means it's always secure - thought you'd like to know.

The only problem is my 1 MB maxnet connection is not fast enough to load the gmail with this setting turned on. I keep getting messages to reload gmail because some functions did not load.

I suggest we get all chip in a few hard disks, download the internet and place it here in Thailand. That should speed up things. :o

I have an old 9GB, how far will that get us?

Thanks, I've just changed mine to the secure option.

Question. Secure from what?

more for wifi connections ( but can also be a problem on a wired network ), but it is better just to use it all the time - the problem with the normal connection to the gmail webmail server is after you have logged in it switches back to the standard http which will transmit everything in clear view - so if you are using wifi somebody can just "sniff" and record all you packets and read the emails that you open etc during your session - the s on the end of https stands for secure which means it is all encrypted so any interception of traffic cannot compromise your emails.

Also protection from the Great Firewall of Thailand that is supposedly in place. Not to mention everyone else between Thailand and the US. It was either the FBI or NSA that was caught monitoring all international traffic, although I'd think it has to be pretty selective due to the vast amount of data. Google can give you the details.
