Hi!

I a currently have a 2 months tourist visa that will be 75% used when I'll get to Ko Phan Gan island, but I'd like to stay there for longer.

What should I do?

I heard I can extend this visa in Chiangmai (where I am right now); the extension that I get does it add 30 days from the day I go to the immagration office, or does it adds 30 more days at the end of the visa.

For exemple, if I go there when the visa has been used for 45 days. How many days do I have left? 30 or 45?

I already had two free 30-days entry stamps prior to this visa. Is it a problem?

How much is it? Is it best to pay in dollars or baths?

Thanks,

- David

The 30-day extension period will start the day after your current permission to stay expires. You lose no days by applying early.

The closest imigration office is in Nathorn on Koh Samui. I think the price is 2400 bath if i remember correctly. You can get pictures and everything next to the office.

Be there early, it is a very small office and it can be a lot of people there. It opens at 9 and they have a break for 1 hour at 1 o clock.

The extension fee is 1900 baht.

Except that this is Koh Samui, famous for its own, inflated price list. Somebody should get a journalist interested in it, bring him along on an application for extension so that he may then write a story on it. However, the journalist might decline, for fear of his life.

Its a sad story.

Maestro, Is it possible to renew it after it expires?

I got news from a friend in Cambodia, I might visit him before heading down there.. Can you extend the visa from outside the country at a Thai embassy?

Once you leave the country your Visa is finished. Used.

You will have to get another one from a consulate or re enter on a 30 day stamp.

the immigration scam in samui is they charge you 500 bath for the letter confirming your adress no matter if you bring picture of if they do it on site, the price doesn't move.

BUT the extension fee is 1900, there's no surcharge for this.

It is about time they charged the same as every one else. Thats a big drop from 5,000.

Is there a way to get a 2-months extension?

Are you still on a tourist visa and when does it expire, where are you now and what country do you come from?

Yes, my tourist visa started July 11th, and ends September 8th. I am in ChiangMai. I am Canadian and my girlfriend is american (same visa dates).

davidvoyage, both of you can apply at any immigration office in Thailand for a 30-day extension of stay. There is an immigration office also in Chiangmai.
