Well, we now know that one of two MEN will be the next USA president. John McCain or Barack Obama. Who do you prefer?

No choice included for undecided, don't care, other party (just don't vote).

This is a Thai related subject because who is the American president does have a large impact on Thailand's economics, and probably a lesser impact on its foreign policy. The intent is just to see how people feel here, not to start a hot political shouting match on US politics. Maybe some people have an insight about which candidate would be better for Thailand.

Early in the polling, but so far, why are the non-Americans preferring McCain? Care to comment?

Interesting because the general impression in the US press is that non-Americans like Obama even more than Americans, and also we think having such a different leader as Obama will greatly improve our battered international image.

It seems people will have to comment a bit to keep this poll in view.

Do you think McCain would be less protectionist (more of a free trader) than Obama and would that be better for Thailand's economy?

Sorry, other than the original post with its somewhat ambiguous reference to Thailand, the OP's second post has nothing to do with Thailand, although a nice attempt at making relevant at the very end.

I dont really care, as long as the current retard is not there, im happy.

Also this has nothing to do with Thailand

The USA has the biggest economy in the world. It is Thailand's top trading partner. Some of the people reacting to the USA's presidents image are indeed, Thai. I think I have justified this to death. If the mods want to close, they may, but I think they are wrong.

I was talking to a Thai lawyer a while back. He told me he found the idea of a black man as US president disturbing.

20 replies is still a relatively small sample size so can't really draw many conclusions. Maybe there should have been more options like "I'm not American but live in the US", since its probably more location than nationality that would determine this poll?

True, small sample.

I like to keep it simple.

I really don't believe that it makes any difference which one of these men is President of the United States. They were both selected from the powers that be, and either one is quite willing to do what they're told to do. They are simply puppets anyway.

IS THIS THAI RELATED _ Mr. & Mrs Moderator????

Note, a similar poll earlier in the selection process WAS ALLOWED here by the mods. If it doesn't interest you, could you just ignore it? Jeez!

So anything to do with the USA, needs to be posted here cause it has the "biggest economy in the world". That somehow it would be related ? Yeah sure, Zimbadwee would be related somehow. Give me a break. Go find a forum with a specific relations to the US to juice.

Wrong, jingthing - it won't make ANY difference to anyone anywhere, much less in Thailand, and only the naive think that it will. Both candidates have been part of the problem, not the solution, and are making promises they cannot possibly deliver. Presidential elections in the US are just an opiate for the stupid masses so they will believe that they have a say; the 2000 election proved that concept a farce. No one has said it better since The Who - meet the new boss same as the old boss.

I didn't vote in this poll either because there was no category for being from the States and not giving a rat's ass. I won't get fooled again.

No. The different candidates and parties have different attitudes on free trade policies. Do you ever read the Thai press on economics? The impact of the AMERICAN economy is mentioned constantly. As the USA is the biggest trading partner to Thailand, this isn't a surprise really. I think some people just can't deal with the fact that the USA is still a powerful, important country and the president of the United States is still the most powerful and important person on the planet.

This has nothing to do with Thailand, end of story. Because the way you link it to Thailand, you could do it with any topic.

You might as well make a Paris Hilton Thread and say its Thai related because alot of guys in Thailand hate/like her etc etc.

Now kickbox this thread to the bin mods, nobody cares what happends in the US

I have made my case. If the mods want to close, so be it. Good day.

This topic has no direct relationship to Thailand, in addition to being another attempt at a meaningless poll. Moderators should close it forthwith.

There seem to be a lot of thais that care since many have asked me what i think of Obama. I am to the point that i will vote for anyone that will get us out of Iraq so the deficit can be gotten under control. Bring our troops home and find a non war solution to Iran so the oil prices can get back to a semi normal level. Oil prices does affect thailand and the thai people.

The one that least tries to police or bully other countries in the world for its own gains or political survival, votes.

I'd say Obama for president. At least he probably knows where indonesia is. :o

cool, so far it seems that non-Americans have brains :o

it's very popular to be against Bush, but for those who come up with this kind of crap : anybody but Bush ...

tell me ... when was the last time you replaced a vicious dictatorship with a democracy?

The main question is was that a good thing ???? The people there are divided into 3 sects that are bent on destroying each other.

As far as I am concerned This Iraq war is the main cause of the economic problems in the USA and Europe. I also think that Iran supplying the resistance in Iraq with weapons is the main reason bush has been on their case which is affecting oil prices.

I'm a bit surprised that so many people are screaming to have this thread closed. There are many threads here at TV that have nothing to do with Thailand but seem to have survived for months. Many related to football and rugby, computers, what people are drinking or listening to at the moment, and on and on.

If this is of no interest to some, simply ignore it and find a Thai-related one that is of interest.

I am not surprised. It is anti-Americanism.

If this was about a Dutch election, people would just ignore it, and not bother to comment.

That is what you think and perceived. By no means the rest of the world thinks likewise. To each their own.

OK, I will play. Perhaps I should have limited it to POLITICAL leader though.

So which POLITICAL LEADER in the world is more important and powerful than whoever is president of the US?

Actually, I do think you are wrong. I do think most people in the world who do think about politics, do think the US pres is the most important political leader in the world. If I am wrong, I would like to see evidence or alternative people.

Again, how is your question related to Thailand? I think someone has been watching too much CNN in the mornings.

Probably the issue of RACE comes into play with many Thai regarding the prefered choice IMO :o

I think you are correct. Dark skin color is considered very negatively in Thailand, especially among the elite here.

I've been trying to get people to listen that for many years. I know that by the time you get to the point of being allowed to be a major party candidate for the presidency, you are already certified as "reliable" by the "powers that be" as you call them. Glad to see that at least one person else agrees with me. I'm stuck here working as a civilian with on a military base, and you woudn't believe the propaganda they put out about voting. No they are to the stage that is suggesting that a person who doesn't vote is somehow anti-american. I just ignore them, mostly.

By the way, have you ever heard that you can write in your candidates name on a federal ballot. You don't have to vote for the choice of any national party. It's the law, and you write in vote must be counted. Of course, no one will ever tell you that, instead they imply you must vote for one of the candidates listed on the ballot.

In the U.S. now that is called democracy.

Still waiting for this to somehow be relevant to Thailand :o Come on Old Croc, chime in please.
