I really don't believe that it makes any difference which one of these men is President of the United States. They were both selected from the powers that be, and either one is quite willing to do what they're told to do. They are simply puppets anyway.

:D

I've been trying to get people to listen that for many years. I know that by the time you get to the point of being allowed to be a major party candidate for the presidency, you are already certified as "reliable" by the "powers that be" as you call them. Glad to see that at least one person else agrees with me. I'm stuck here working as a civilian with on a military base, and you woudn't believe the propaganda they put out about voting. No they are to the stage that is suggesting that a person who doesn't vote is somehow anti-american. I just ignore them, mostly.

By the way, have you ever heard that you can write in your candidates name on a federal ballot. You don't have to vote for the choice of any national party. It's the law, and you write in vote must be counted. Of course, no one will ever tell you that, instead they imply you must vote for one of the candidates listed on the ballot.

In the U.S. now that is called democracy.

Still waiting for this to somehow be relevant to Thailand :o Come on Old Croc, chime in please.

Most things here are irelevant to thailand, just like yourself. :D Afterall your a foreigner in a foreign land!

So if everything on TV has to be about thailand then does that mean everything in thailand has to be thai?

Confused? Im not LOL

Well, looking at all your postings today throughout the forums on TV, somehow I am not surprised by your ramble.

To the OP, maybe it's a bit optimistic on your part to honestly believe that any Thai cares about the US election. Re-visit this topic again 3 days before the election proper. Other than that you are preaching your American rules the world mentality (and therefore everyone doesn't get to bed at night before catching up on the latest poll from Gallup, CNN, FOX or whatever) to people in the rest of the world who don't give a crap.

Normal people in Thailand (and I hazard to guess in the rest of Asia) have bigger worries in their daily lives than if Obama vs McCain is nothing more than a terrorist trying to make french fries.

Your OP does nothing but perpetuate the pervailing consensus around the world as to the level of ignorance of Americ*ns.

On request:

Before the last Australian election, I started a thread asking who people would prefer to win - Rudd or Howard.

I actually posted it in retaliation to a similar thread about the British election which was allowed to run.

Mine was promptly closed as not relevent to Thailand.

Perhaps someone could explain to me why these sort of threads are treated in different ways?

However, I will always retain my sense of humour no matter what the outcome. :o:D

I am not from the US, but it would increase my respect for the country if they elected Obama. I believe that on the world stage it would greatly improve their image too, but I have a feeling that they will go with old-man-McCain.

McCain/Obama - blah blah blah! Rep/Dem - blah blah blah! Left/right - blah blah blah!

Now listen closely - whom so ever you vote for the government still retaines power. Different masks to the same face.

I think the OPs poll says it all - no chioce (McCain/Obama).

Wake up sheeple :o

So you are taking the bite ? This again has nothing to do with Thailand. Not in a single bit. If Jingthing felt that the US is the driving force that determines the world's fate, including Thailands', that is his opinion. But I find no justification why a presidential election in the US could find it's place in TV.

This is imho :o

No, that is not my opinion. The way you twisted what I did says tells us alot more about you than me.

To respond to the Australian, it is indeed quantifiable that the US president is more important to Thailand than the Australian PM. Your economy just isn't very big, now is it? I bet you if you asked the man on the street most anywhere in the world that most know the name of the US president, and most do not know the name of the Australian PM. That doesn't mean the US is a better country at all.

wow can't believe people here are voting for McCain. sorry, but are you idiots? can someone explain?

I wouldn't vote for McCain, but here are the reasons some probably have:

they are republican party loyalists

they are social values voters, and they know McCain will be more anti-gay and anti-abortion choice rights than any democrat

they are wealthy and don't want higher taxes

they think McCain is better on foreign policy than Obama

they think McCain has more experience than Obama

they fear Obama for his lack of experience, his left wing voting record

they fear Obama because of his race or perceived though untrue Muslim-ness

they link Obama with the God damnn America preacher ex-friend

they admire McCain's heroism in the Viet Cong prison camp

they remember when McCain used to be a maverick, and hope he will come back to that if elected

they support the war in Iraq

they are opposed to more socialized health care

they support more free trade agreements like Nafta

they think McCain will be better for their stock market investments

they fear Obama will increase dividend and capital gains taxes

they are wealthy and opposed to raising the social security income limit (the tax cuts off at a certain level, Obama wants to raise that level)

Overall, McCain is a formidable opponent. This election is probably going to be close.

I have not decided who to vote for yet, but McCain is a genuine good guy that right wing Republicans hate and a war hero who had the chance to escape being tortured and imprisoned and go home, but chose to stay with his men.

Here is a blurb from wikipedia about him as a youngster:

Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, McCain entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. There, he was a friend and leader for many of his classmates,[9] and sometimes stood up for people who were being bullied.[5] He also became a lightweight boxer.[5][10] McCain came into conflict with higher-ranking personnel. He did not always obey the rules, and this contributed to a low class rank (894 of 899) that he did not aim to improve.[9][11][12] McCain did well in academic subjects that interested him, such as literature and history, but studied only enough to pass subjects he disliked, such as math.[5] McCain graduated in 1958.[9]

The Nightingale's Song goes into depth about a high ranking upperclassman slapping around a tiny Pilipino busboy in the students mess and how McCain stood up for him even though he was a low ranking plebe at the time and risked being thrown out of school and ruining his career.

Obama is good looking and young and makes great speeches, but that is about all anyone knows about him at this point. :o

Would have been more interesting to have had a "neither of the above" option - but so it goes.........

Given the poll as structured, I voted for McCain - primarily because Obama's arrogance is scaling ever greater heights with months to go. I nearly fell out of my chair when I heard him at the Elysee press conference referring to "my good friend President Sarkozy" [a guy he met 45 minutes before] and giving him advice on being careful with questions from US reporters. And this the day after his empty rhetoric in Berlin the day before - signing off with "Thank you, Berlin!". Bono yes - Obama no.

Maybe by this time next year [but almost certainly not before the election), the starstruck US electorate will wake up to the fact that what we're getting from Obama now is not the overture for an opera to come; this is the opera. The man gives new meaning to the word "shallow".

That's not so bad, Bush thought that Sarkozy was the type of cancer that AIDS patients get.

Lets all keep HOPELESSNESS alive, shall we?

I mean, really. The USA is basically a conservative country. If someone as liberal as Obama actually gets elected, that would be really something.

I am American: Obama

America needs a cultural and political revolution will set the future. The people in the initial stages are not always the best picks or as grand as the Founding Fathers, but I do agree" America Needs Change!"

In four years they will be saying " I remember when he was a blackboy" No offense intended just a joke.

I'm a diehard liberal and a big Obama fan, though I haven't sullied myself by voting for the past 30 years. That said, I have to be fair and say that yes many folks do dislike Bush, but it's the Congress in the US that has a 9% approval rating - the Democratically-controlled Congress.

OK, I'll bite - what type of change is it that you think that Obama will bring? I haven't heard him be very specific about that, he just seems to throw about the word "change" and promise things such as "economic justice". I presume that "economic justice" is a code word for something and that it's not synonymous with laisee faire capitalism, but what is he promising exactly?
