Hi

I'm an Irish national (under 40 still) and have been in thailand for the last 7 months, Currenly on the 2nd part of a 2xTourist Visa which i got at Vientiane, previous to moving to thailand i was resident in the Uk for about 12 years.

I now wish to get my marraige registered so i can get the Marriage Visa.

I now need to get the freedom to marry affadavit from the Irish consulate, not a problem really i have never been married previously. The only difficult part is the proof of income, I have the income but proving it might be slightly difficult. I can show them the statement from the thaibank with the money in it and the tranfers etc. To prove my continuing income while in thailand (as i'm obviously here as a tourist and not working from home on the internet) I would have to get slightly creative.

So would it be best to get my wife to declare and pay tax on income of 40kbath plus per month. What questions do the local tax office ask or what info do they need when declaring income?

or could i set up an Internet company/ work permit route.

thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this and for any advice.

The easiest route would be for you wife to declare her last year's 40,000 income late, pay the tax and submit her 2550 Por Ngor Dor 91 tax form for last year with a receipt. If you want to make a late tax payment then you may well also have pay a small fine at the local police station.

However I am not sure how immigration would consider/view any income of your wife's prior to your date of marriage.

I always think it is a shame that a man should marry for the sole purpose of being able to get annual extensions of stay. However, since you have decided to go that route, Voyuer, I agree that income tax payments by your wife on a fictitious income of not less than 40k per month is an ideal way to handle it.

I believe that her declared income before marriage will also count, but let’s hear from those who have used this method.

Hi Maestro, Sorry you misunderstood my post, We have been in a relationship for two years, we did the village marriage ceremony back in january, but now i want get every thing sorted so i'm not using the tourist visa's anymore.

Just looking for the way to get the proper visa with the least amount of fuss.

From what i can understand, are the income tax payment based on a full previous year?

and if you go the option of money in the bank what sort of detail do they require as evidence of income.

IIRC it is no longer money in the bank it is a joint 40K/month. We pay tax on 10K/month and we do it 2x/pa. That is just as we find it convenient for ourselves.

As said by Mosha, this is not an option. It has to be income.

thanks for the replies...

Do anyone know or have any experience with regards to how closely they look? do they want accounts etc, if my wife suddenly starts declaring 480K thb+ per year

do they need a full financial year as proof of income or can a shorter period do i.e since january this year?

One English translation says “total annual income that is averaged out not less than 40,000 Baht per month”, the other translation says “total income of not less than Baht 40,000 per month”, and it was clarified in a thread in late 2006, I believe, that the original Thai text mentions an average over 12 months. However, many members have posted that when it was about the Thai wife’s income the immigration officer was satisfied with tax receipts for the past 3 months. I don’t know if all offices handle it this way, but probably not.
