Hey all,

I just completed my contract with a company in Bangkok last week. I was here for one year on a Non-Immigrant B Visa with Work Permit. The company is cancelling my work permit and I am going to Vientiane early next week to get a Tourist Visa. Over the next two months, I hope to work out a new job (i've been applying to things).

Does this all sound okay? I guess I need some reassurance. Will it seem weird to the consulate in Vientiane that I just had a Work Permit and Non-Imm and am now asking for a Tourist? Also, will my good record help me be able to get a new Non-Imm B Visa and Work Permit when the time comes?

Thanks!

You will have no problem. If you want, you can even get a double-entry tourist visa in Vientiane. Once you get your new WP3 (receipt for work permit application) Vientiane will again be good for a single-entry non-B visa.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Do you have a multiple enty non B visa issued overseas or an extension of permission to stay issued by your local immigration dept?

If you have a non B visa issued overseas, then it is not affected by the cancellation of your work permit. You can continue your stay and continue to get 90 day stamps at the border, provided you re-enter Thailand earlier than the 'Enter Before' date on your visa.
