2008 Olympics

Featured Replies

question; how do they determine who gets to play football in the tournament. ireland &england not there. why?

anybody know?

Not 100% sure, but I believe it has to do with how their U21 teams are performing in tournaments prior to the Olympics.

Also believe the U21 teams are allowed to have a few "over 21" on the team as well.

Pls correct me guys if Im wrong here.

Ah so it show through by your polite reply......you are a dart player....big belly gut and all?? Pint in one and the belly in the other, fag hanging out of the mouth??

If you could read properly...clearly that is beyond a chump like you...then you would have seen .....

"maybe fine at the local darts match"

For your information, if this is not too much for you to take in all at once, I haven't ever been to any of the sports that you obviouisly see as elitist.

You're a sad case. Keep up throwing darts but next time try and aim for a dart board.

First of all, even though the local dart tournaments don't have a large payout such as the larger ones it is much better than the prizes that you alluded to. A lot of the smaller tournaments are where you start to qualify for the big ones. Same as most pub games and events (i.e. Pool, foosball, Texas Hold-em etc.)

Secondly, I thank you for your narrow minded stereotyping about a description of a darter. I on the other hand won't bother going into stereotyping what most think a Harley rider looks like as my friends as well as I have or have had a hog.

Now for the last bit, I see you read as well since I didn't say that the sports were elite, it was the sportsmen and women that I was referring to. But obviously since you have never been to a major sporting event in your life I wouldn't expect you to understand anything at all about 'crowd noise' and how it will/may affect game/player results. I feel sad for you being deprived of seeing an event live. But Sturgis is great! :o

Gee, and I thought it was the other way around.....start with the Olympics and then head down to the local club level. I have seen pathetic prizes in the pubs...and they are not generous. Sure you have the ones that can get you on further....but as I have said, LOCAL matches.

I have seen darts on the telly and I have seen the players. they, from what I have seen, accurately fit what I have described.

Mmmm. let me see...do Formula 1, Moto GP, World Downhill Slalom, Rugby/Soccer/Boxing Internationals, etc qualify as "major sporting events"? I have always believed and still do that you do NOT shout and distract when the opposition is taking a shot/play. To me this is bad sportmanship.

As for Harley riders, Sturgis, etc, ....I have just finished a tough ride (alone and on my baby in the photo) of 11,000 kms from Alaska to San Francisco all the way around Alaska, the Yukon, B.C. the Alcan Highway, Route 1 and 101, Oregon, Washington and many a small byway, and even dirt road, in between. I am due back in 2 weeks to check out the South/Western States and reckon on another 10k or so. Been to Faker See...biggest in Europe... and lots of others. Yep...probably over 250k on the Harleys and not ...as you nicely pointed out....sitting on my arse on the sofa.

And sorry for the late reply. I was in Portugal last week on the Estoril GP circuit for 3 full days of track days at speeds nearing 300 kph. Alcan Highway to Estoril??? No, I never stereotype bikers.
