Can anyone tell me about residency here? I was under the impression that after a 3 year unbroken retirement visa I could apply. Is that still the case? I heard that it no longer is

Never heard that. All the documentation says you have to be working with a work permit to apply.

BTW, the chances of a retiree getting PR is practically zero as part of the requirements is how much tax you have paid.
