I have a PC with an ASUS P5K Motherboard which has built-in WiFi capability, I have set up a home Network in AP Mode using WindowsXP.

When I try to connect to the Network with a Laptop running Windows Vista the Laptop detects the Network but gives an Error Message:

"The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network"

Can anyone advise me how I can correct the settings saved on the Laptop?

Other Laptops can connect with no problem.

the 2 modes you will have for a computer/laptop wifi card under windows are - infrastructure ( connect the card to an Access point /router ) and adhoc which allows you to connect 2 compters together ( only 2 ) via their wifi cards.

if the latter is what you are trying to do I suggest you set the visata machine up as adhoc

You should check the setting of the connection like TCP/IP and others. The settings of that computer need to match the settings of the Network and/or WiFi.

Open the Control Panel, go to Network Setting and check the setting for the Network Adaptor. Adjust/change as necessary.

Cheers.

If you have a network connection saved and later added/removed/changed the network password/key, you will get this error. Delete the connection and add it again, it should work ok.

I was going to do that but can't figure out how to delete it - can you advise?

Many thanks.

IMHO you can't delete a network connection, only disable it.

In the network connections section of Control Panel, you will be shown the connection(s) currently connected to your computer.

You can right-click and select "disable", and that will stop it from working. After you restart your PC and when "new network found" pops up you can set it up for your needs.
