george Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 500 students demonstrate against relocation of Parliament to their school BANGKOK: -- About 500 students of Yothin Burana School rallied inside the Parliament compound Friday to protest against the plan to relocate Parliament to the plot where their school is located on now in Nonthaburi. The students began their protest at 10 am and would not stop the rally after meeting with Parliament President Chai Chidchob and two deputy House speakers. Chai and the two deputy speakers explained to the protesting students that the students would be allowed to study at their school until their new school is built abut 2 kilometres away. The construction of the new school is about to be completed in two years. But the students said they want to remain in the current location for fear that the environment of the new school would not be good and suitable for studying. The students complained that Parliament has never held a public hearing to listen to opinions of parents before planning to relocate their school. -- The Nation 2008-08-15
