Hi I am about to buy a business in Patong/Phuket. I've been told by my accountant that if the lease is in a personal name I must deduct 15% withholding tax but if the lease is in a business name then it's only 5%.

Is it normal in Thailand that the business broker request all monies be transacted through his business account deposit and final payment etc

Your thoughts please

Yes, WHD on rent is 5%.

Yes, it is normal for you to pay the funds for the business into his ESCROW account, in fact, anybody who did not do this would be rather foolish. Do check though that your funds are going into an escrow account, and not the brokers own bank account.
