Tefl Thailand

Featured Replies

hi,i'm just back from a year living in thailand and i am very keen to return and look for a teaching job.i have no teaching experience or degree.I have browsed many tefl courses on the net and decided on "thailand tefl" basic course. There seems to be so many choices out there can anyone advise on this course or dos and donts when selecting the right course. Are there any to stay clear of.All advise would be welcome

cheers

i have no teaching experience or degree.
Here's some advice - if you really want to teach then get a degree and some teaching experience in your home country. Then you can get the good jobs available here. With no degree or experience, you'll be lucky to get the bottom of the barrel jobs. And if you do become employed, you'll probably be working illegally.

wangsuda gives good advice but if you must pursue this idea, I suggest you take a classroom TEFL course that has actual in-school teaching practice. Online TEFL is fine for those who have some teaching or public speaking experience but not for those who don't.

I am considering TEFL courses myself and will either do the SEE TEFL course in Chiang Mai or maybe one offered in France where I can combine learning with a trip to a country I've never visited. For me it's all about the timing of things here at home (USA) as I have been offered a teaching position in my Thai hometown (have house and family there) next year. I have a business degree and have worked in Thailand for a few years before so I know the difference between visiting Thailand and living/working there. It is different.

Good luck!

thanks for the advise, all very welcome.the course i have chosen is for 4 weeks with classroom time in thailand.will check out SEE TEFL tho.

cheers

I checked out your Thailand Tefl course also. It appears to me that the SEE course in Chiang Mai is about $60 more than the Thailand Tefl course in Phuket BUT the SEE course includes accommodation for the $1195 USD price whereas the Thailand TEFL in Phuket does not for the $1134 USD price. It appears the Thailand TEFL (Phuket) premium package @ $1,994 USD includes accommodation. Quite a price difference.

I actually visited the Chiang Mai school a couple weeks ago and found Mr. Quinn quite knowledgeable and personable.

SEE in Chiang Mai will be my choice if I choose to train in Thailand.

Regards,

Martian
