Whats This Insect?

Featured Replies

Guys

Wonder if anyone here could help me identify this insect?

Will try to attach a picture (not sure how to do that).

The insect is about one inch long, with a wingspan about 1,5 inches.

Single wide Yellow band on the body, with a litle bit yellow on the tail.

My wife says it does not sting, but it bites.

She does not remember the name of it.

Have to admit, it is a rather scary looking one. Especially for someone not too happy about bees, vasps, etc.

My wife says "almost same pueng (bee)". From talking with her, it is a type of wasp, but she does not have the specific name.

Thnx Mate.

It is the biggest I ever seen.

Used to be one or 2 in the tree outside my balcony, but now there are 3-4 of them.

Wonder what they eat, as they sit on the leaves.

I think these ones cut off pieces of leaf and insert them into holes to make their nest. I'm not sure if they are wasps or a kind of saw fly. Looks like a big wasp to me. We have lots of them and I think some slightly different ones so I can't exactly remember which are which. They are very big but don't seem aggressive. I remember having an argument with one when it tried to block one of my fire extinguishers.

However the abdomen looks far more solid than a normal wasp but maybe its just the colour.

That also explains why my wife said they dont sting but they bite you if they get annoyed with you.

I have to admit that Im one of those that are not particular found of vasps.

Do they happen to find they way indoors?

What to do if they build a nest just outside the house/condo?

lots of smoke (from Coconut husks for a couple of hours) makes them feel not welcome, they move on!

Wow, easy as that?

I guess there are some companies that can do this then?
