Tesco Lotus

-items placed on any shelf cause people are too lazy to return it to the right place

-the customers shopping there have a certain aura to them. Hard describe it but it makes you both thankful for your luck in life and uncomfortable at the same time.

i feel like i am back in the USA whenever i go into one.

Its a harsh dose of humanity but I think its good for those of us trapped in the CBD to go inside a Tesco Lotus every now and then.

Tesco= Mad Hood....

Big C is much better, low prices. the lightening is usualy better. better products and better item placing....

Just don't buy any iced cakes from the front row. I saw a little kid standing on tiptoes licking all the icing off... :o

ghetto is a slang word in modern pop culture.

20 guys in the back of a pick up - thats ghetto.

a six pack of yogurt in the tissue paper section - thats ghetto.

a half eaten apple hidden behind the soy sauce display - thats ghetto.

a farang shopping with his teerak who is wearing his over sized 100 baht Thailand Elephant tshirt - thats ghetto.

mom shopping with her five kids under the age of 10 - thats ghetto.

So what exactly is modern pop culture?

Is it just an excuse to talk <deleted>?

CBD means Central Business District. I assume he's in BKK. If the OP is American, he should know what a real getto looks like. Just check out any major American city. I have seen nothing like such conditions in Thailand.

eeeerrrr, :o have you ever heard of a SLUM.

plenty of them in Bangkok, open your eyes next time you are in a cab.

I went to my local Tesco-Lotus on the last holiday and it was packed with hordes of Thais aimlessly wandering around - touching everything - and seemingly spending very little - if anything.

It must drive the management crazy to have every isle clogged with these window shoppers every weekend and public holiday. Mind you the suki - hot pot restaurant was doing a roaring trade when I last dropped in.

All that looking, touching, clogging and wandering certainly seems to build an appetite!

My local Tesco is near Lam Lukka. It is a big hypomarket and quite pleasant to walk around. My biggest problem is finding decent felang food. One would think that a British company would provide a decent variety of British food, especially in Bangkok.

Example. It is virtually impossible to find a good English pork sausage anywhere, unless you go to Villa Market in town.

TL is good for electronics purchases and things that you are specifically there to get. As for regular grocery shopping ala Wal-Mart style Carrefour is the place to go. Gotta love the delivery tuk-tuk.

As for Ghetto, nope go to downtown East Los Angeles and shop at one of their "Ranch" markets. TL is on par with most Wal Marts.
