August 20, 200817 yr For the last couple of weeks contractors have been widening the road from the ridiculously named "Villas Grand Cru",and on towards Kata This will provide a wider centre lane for all the vans and lorries to stay in but what worries me is what will happen to the old and beautiful tree currently left standing on the left in the dip beyond "Grand Cru" Will the clever contractor work out how to avoid cutting it down? By taking a slight curve to the right this could be done. Let's hope so.
August 20, 200817 yr I'm more worried about the crazy driving that will ensue due to a widened race track, that road is dangerous at the best of times. Just look at the main road from Chalong Circle to Rawai. Choppy
August 20, 200817 yr Will the clever contractor work out how to avoid cutting it down? Do they even exist? lol
August 20, 200817 yr Agree with #2. This will only lead to faster driving, not more safety or greater capacity.
August 20, 200817 yr Without doubt that tree will be gone soon. It's good that the bend on the Kata end is being straightened out as it has been the cause of many innocent motor bikers being squashed by runaway trucks. On the other had it's going to extend the crazy driving observed passing the Greenman, all the way over the hill. Edited August 20, 200817 yr by LivinginKata
August 20, 200817 yr Yeah 3 lane roads work so well in Thailand.. Just witness the safety that is Patong Kathu hill.. As for making a road to avoid a tree ?? Do we not have some more urgent environmental issues to be concerned with. Suggest ignoring old trees and concentrating on a safe road and some real environmental controls.

Do we not have some more urgent environmental issues to be concerned with. Suggest ignoring old trees and concentrating on a safe road and some real environmental controls. Trees are vital to environmental issues. We need more not less. It is such a shame that today in Phuket the prevalent attitude to old and beautiful trees is chop it, cut it down, it's in the way ,leaves are dropping in my pool, it's spoiling my view . Soon the hillsides and promontories and beach sides will be bare of greenery and Phuket will become covered from end to end with thousands of shop houses no-one wants and most will be standing empty. Will we want to live here then?
