midasthailand
Am I missing something? Is there some watchdog in Thailand that blocks the ability to download torrents? Every time I go to download something my computer freezes and my task manager tells me that the program is not responding, very frustrating. jeffer
Some people feel that ISPs hobble torrents in Thailand but never had that problem myself. Try reinstalling BitComet and if it still doesn't work then try µTorrent.

Sounds like your PC has some software installation problem as your ISP cannot cause your programs to freeze... try reinstalling the bit torrent client and also doing a malware check on your PC. Good advice. Do a google for Malwarebytes - their free scanner removes all the bad stuff and has saved me a number of times recently.
percy2
I'd try using a new client. uTorrent has good reviews , I use Azureus with no problems. CHeers
Cuban
Is there any port blocking that is affecting your connection, to add to the above comments - my torrents come down fine, both local and across the world (IP trace to see where they come from). meadish_sweetball
I would start by changing clients to either uTorrent or Azureus. BitComet, right or wrong, has a bad name and is blocked by some torrent trackers. Your hanging problem is not caused by your ISP. More likely, it is a problem with your network hardware or drivers. As for the speed, it depends on several different factors, your personal upload and download capacity, your router's ability to cope with many simultaneous connections, the upload speed capacity of connected sources, whether you have forwarded the proper ports to become fully connectable (applies if you connect through a router), the location of the connected sources. Public trackers contain more ratio cheaters (using clients that report a higher upload than they actually provide, in order to improve their own speed on the back of others), as well as poisoned/fake files, than private trackers, and further public trackers do not enforce a 1:1 download/upload ratio. For that reason, they will suffer more from hit and run, and will generally be slower. The upside is ease of use, and better availability.

Slightly unrelated to the OP question but, in view of recent regulations on ISP's to monitor user info, does anyone know whether any of us in Thailand who use P2P could see a letter from the 'Big Boys' asking for thousands/millions of baht in compensation for all our downloads--as has happened in the West? Any ideas?

Tried the randomize port button a couple of times, no avail. Maxnet 2 Mbit in Maprachan, Pattaya Correct me if I’m wrong but you should have opened a port for your Torrent. By randomizing the ports you are not using the open port so you will get very slow speeds.

kanpo
you can use almost any port, but you have to set the port in your bit torrent client and then set it in your modem as well. you may have to setup a static ip address on your computer (not with your isp). go to portforward.com - they have lots of good info. raro
Just tried the static IP address as in http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm When dialing in again, error 735 (I think it was) "requested IP address rejected by server" /edit: I had no problems with torrents until last week when I was off the internet for two days (no ADSL signal) and had the guys from TT&T over to fix it. They also upgraded me from 1 Mbit to 2 Mbit as a "special service". Not sure what exactly they did as the maid let them in and when I got home they were happily surfing porn sites... Here we go again. Every conceivable problem comes down to Thailand "blocking" something.
