My non-immigrant F visa expires on 31 August. I have finished my contract with my employer but wish to stay on in the country. Please tell me what are the options that I have to extend my stay.

1) Do I go on a 'visa run' and re-enter the country to apply for a new tourist visa? Would I have to take a re-entry permit when I leave Thailand on the visa run?

2) A law firm told me that I can have my visa extended for sometime without leaving the country. Will that be possible if I'm not employed anymore? Is there any extension possible on a Category F visa?

I'm really new to all this so any advice would be helpful...Thanks

You are contradicting yourself. In another topic you wrote this:

I need some clarification here. I have a non-immi B visa which expires on 31 Aug. I want to continue my stay in the country on a tourist visa. Do i need to conduct a 'visa run' and leave the country to apply for a visa-on-arrival? I'm really new to this so I can use all the help I can get.

However, it does not matter whether you entered with a non-B or non-F visa, the answer is the same. You have to leave the country not later than the last day of the permission to stay, ie the “until” date on your entry stamp.

If you were in Thailand on an extension of stay for work, the situation would be a little different.
