We just bought some rai of land in Chaiyaphum and we will plant in the next 2 weeks cassava there

Know there are plenty of Cassavafields around and we here different things about manure.

Some say chicken manure is the best for cassava, some they cow manure is the best in longterm.

The second questions is, if you take chicken manure, what is about the aging

In our area they "say" they use fresh chicken manure of about half a ton per rai.

If someone has any good advice in this, please let me know.

We want to plant the cassave in about 14 days from now and we will take the cassave out after 18 month.

If you need more infos, please let me know

If you are planting in 2 weeks time you need to get the chicken manure down pronto pronto - real fast, and if possible run over it lightly with a disc - just to get it mixed into the top few cm's.

I use 400kg's per rai - so I would think you half a ton will be fine.

Have never used fresh manure.

You are talking about the stuff swept up from the floors of chicken barns - are you not? Well, thats okay because a lot of it is over a month old in any case.

Be careful if the manure is not broken down properly, the decomposing manure makes the nitrogen unavailable to the plants hence people sometimes get yellow plants after manuring. If you are unsure spread or mix with the manure about 10kg/rai of urea and this will help counter the imbalance.

I have planted 25 rai this year also in Chayapoum. Chick poo was aslo recomended and have seen others use about 50 bags/rai. Not sure of the weight/bag but they looked big so I guess 40-50kg each. The only reason I didn't use it was that you need to order it in volume 2 or 3 weeks in advance. The price at the time was 22 Baht/Bag and labour was going to be 2 Baht/bag for spreading it.

Because of the organizational hassles I did what i was told was the next best thing and spread 2 bags/rai of the dried poo 180 baht/bag. I have no idea if this is more concentrated but so far I am happy as the plants are looking really healthy and you could see the cracks in the earth where the tubours had formed after only 2 months. It is coming up to 3 months now and I will soon spread 50 kg of chemical fertilizer/rai and will also leave most of it for 18 months.
