For visa take marriage certificate/birth certificate, copy of spouse ID card and copy of there home register (both signed). Passbook account with something in it will also likely be requested but not always required. It is also good to have note from spouse asking for visa to be issued.

do you have to own your house or can you rent and still get the visa?

Your spouse will have a house registration where ever she/he lives.

All Thais will have this.

The "blue book" is the house register that she is listed on (all Thai have to be listed). It may not be where she lives and often will be her parents. That is what they want to see a copy of.

Was that the marriage cert, proof of income/savings and the standard passport photos? Anything else asked for?
I brought along marriage certificate (certified by the MFA) house register of my wife, ID card of my wife, passports ( mine and my wifes and copies of it) I did bring along also my bank book which they never ask for, passport photos ( 2 ) a letter of my wife asking the embassy to issue me a visa, I also included some old statements of money transactions from overseas to thailand. Business register of my wifes business, and I also brought my wife along which made a big different in my opinion.

As easy as anything, just got back from KL with a multiple O visa supplied all documents and a few more

and no problems what's so ever.

I arrived back in Bangkok also last week from getting my non o in KL.

After queueing, went to the counter and handed all my paperwork in...marriage certificate, house registration of wife, birth certificate of two kids, copy of wife's ID card, threw in a copy of her passport also. The nice lady behind the counter asked me if I had a bank statement...started panicking, thinking they wouldn't give me a visa, had used up all three of my one month stamps also and was worried about not getting allowed back into Thailand. Anyway, answered no and was just told I'd be given a single entry Non O visa. She said if I had come with proof of money in a bank I would have been given a multiple entry one. After asking how much I needed to have in a bank to qualify for this, she seemed like she didn't know...took a couple of moments thinking, then replied one hundred thousand baht. Not sure if this figure is true but sounds good to me, I'll be back there in three months with a bank statement.

Anyway, how long is the Non O valid for? One year? Single three month one cost 220 riggit (about 2200 baht) and a multiple entry I think is 550 ringgit (5500 baht).

Loved KL the short time I spent there, friendly immigration staff who greeted me with a smile and a 'hello' both on the way in and out. All the locals speak good English.

Even if they rejected the "O" application, you still could have requested a "Tourist" visa to return to Thailand. A single entry Non- "O" is good for 90 days.

The marriage cert needs to be certified by MFA too? I am assuming this is for marriage certs issued in foreign countries (ie: if you got married in the UK/USA). A marriage cert issued by an amphur in Thailand, is the final doc and does not need to further certified I presume?? (although the Thai marriage cert does look you could easily replicate it on microsoft publisher with the flowery border lol).

This was about a marriage in a foreign country, so it needed to be legalized by the MFA. A Thai wedding certificate doen't need to be legalized. But immirgation nowadays also want a copy of the entry into the wedding register (Khor rhor 2 form) besides the wedding certificate (khor rhor 3 form). Don't forget to get it at the amphur.

Thanks Mario. If I apply for a non-O at KL, will the certificate from amphur be enough?

I don't have the Khor Ror2 form as the amphur didn't give it to us, they only gave us 2 copies of the wedding cert.

Would it be simple enough for us to go back to amphur to get this Khor ror2 form?

For a visa it will be enough. If you want an extension of stay from immirgation you probably be asked for the khor rhor 2 form, but not for a visa from an embassy.

Thanks, hmmmm wonder why the amphur did'nt give us copies of the khor ror2 form at the time, nevermind guess will have to make another trip back there

This could be a life saver for me after my recent marriage visa fiasco.

I'm off to KL tomorrow. Sorry to be naive, but where exactly do you make this application, and how long does it take to process your application ???

Many thanks

It is only in recent years that they began providing more than the marriage certificate itself and if marriage was long ago the information may not be in computer so that would require getting at original office. But believe most are in computers now.

For a visa based on having Thai wife you apply at Royal Thai Embassy Consulate Section using marriage certificate/copy and copy of wife ID card and home register. For multi entry they will want to see proof of 100k baht in bank account.

I believe you apply one day (in the morning) 09.30-13.00 and pick up next day at 14.30
