Dear all, very well respected members of this virtual community.

Today (for me) has been a day as never before witnessed in the land of smiles.

The unbelievable has happened.

Something that will blow your mind but told by many it would be impossible.

But here it is, in plain sight, for those of you that care to open your eyes.

Numerous topics have been started here on TV and elsewhere, trying to discuss the unthinkable.

Hoping one day it would happen, (Please read my signature).

The promise that one day we would live in a better world, a world where there is no hatred between people, no borders and a place where we can breath clean air

to just give a few examples.

My dear friends, a start has been made, I am telling you all that some people are listening and taking action.

And you are the people responsible for taking the next step!

Yes you are, you can change a part of this world.

Make it into a better place.

Are you willing and open to change your mindset?

Are you willing to get rid of your narrowminded views of how things have been done here (Ore there) before and call that : Culture?

Are you one of those people that think things will never change?

Well to inform you, things do change, have a look at this:

<deleted>???

I'm having a lot of trouble getting excited about a Tesco bag that's seems to made of a little heavier plastic.

I guess it might be interpreted as a move in the right direction, but the bottom line is that it's still a plastic bag with much more limited durability than cloth. It will inevitably wash up on a Thailand beach or be burned at a landfill site, whereas a cloth one can be used many many more times, won't send fumes into the air that are as toxic as plastic ones if burned, and if it does wash up on a beach there's a chance that some poor person might find it and reuse it.

If the Thai government or companies like Tesco were to get serious about the problem of plastic bags contributing to pollution and waste, they should consider commissioning a company to make millions of durable cloth shopping sacs that could be sold basically at cost, thereby enticing consumers to opt for that choice. It seems that the only cloth shopping sacs I've seen that were available for sale are not cheap enough to tempt me.

I thought this was going to be about UFOs.

Then I thought it might be about politics.

Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to find the real subject of this thread.

Introduce new and better ways of doings things in Asia step by step., and yes I have seen cotton bags already elsewhere.

I like to make people feel happy, no no no you perverts, not in that way.

Is it a bomb ?

No this time not, ha ha .

so it's a bag.

so what?

What so what?

Anyway, it was a bit funny as I put the big bag first on the conveyor belt and about 30 cm. I started putting on the first food items.

Hoping she understood that I wanted the food items directly in the big bag.

But noooooooooooooooooooo, she started to fold the big bag and wanted to put it into one of those smaller Lotus bags, ha ha ha!

So I pointed at my food items and then pointed at the big bag, big smile on her face, she understood.

But the Thai couple behind me said something like: Why farang take one bag?

So it is a first step in the right direction and I hope we will see other people follow and in the end will have all of us bring their own durable bag.

So my question to all of you reading this Fred and living and /or visiting Thailand, the next time you go shopping for your food and other stuff, will you bring your own bag or choose another alternative like me.

:D

".... or choose another alternative like me."

Exactly what kind of alternative are you?

There was no comma behind alternative so I guess you are not a native speaker of the English language?

(Neither am I....)

I was refering to using one bigger plastic bag to put all stuff in, so not to use all of those smaller plastic bags they stuff all different articles in that you purchase.

I fully agree to use a reusable bag made from natural fibers, when doing your shoppings it is not yet widely available.

Sorry all for my grammar and spelling mistakes, I am trying to do my best.

Alex, I was taking the piss at your expense. I am the one to apologise, and I completely agree with you about avoiding the unnecessary use of plastic bags. You really 98 years of age?

That is only in this reincarnation.

How many rebirths ya had? Alex
