Thai Divorce

Featured Replies

Tonight I receive an email from my Thai wife asking me to send her my copy of the marriage certificate.

FACTS: We were married in Thailand about 3 years ago.She is in Thailand ,I'm in Australia. 6 months ago when I saw her last ,we discussed my moving to Thailand permenantly as her parents would not allow her to come to Australia.[she is 39,by the way.]About 3-4 months ago I told her I may not be able to sell my house and then move to Thailand, for a number of reasons. 1 month ago she wrote telling me she was divorcing me,and that she did not want me to come back to her home town in Northern Thailand. In that letter she asked me to send her my copy of the marriage certificate.

My understanding of divorce by mutual consent is that husband and wife have to present themselves, with the necessary documents, at the District Office where they obtained the marriage certificate.

If this is the case ,then why does she want my copy of the marriage certificate?
