sabina Posted January 20, 2005 Author Share Posted January 20, 2005 OK, let's update the virus' news Virus Profile: W32/Bropia.worm Risk Assessment - Home Users: Low - Corporate Users: Low Date Discovered: 1/19/2005 Date Added: 1/19/2005 Origin: Unknown Length: 159,744 bytes Type: Virus SubType: Internet Worm DAT Required: 4421 Virus Characteristics This worm may spread via MSN Messenger with the following filenames: Drunk_lol.pif Webcam_004.pif sexy_bedroom.pif naked_party.pif love_me.pif When run, the worm attempts to send a file to a contacts who's status has changed, by hooking the user interface Windows and buttons. This may not be an effective way for the worm to spread in many situations. Indications of Infection The worm also attempts to disable CMD.EXE, TASKMGR.EXE, and the ability to use the RIGHT-CLICK of the mouse, and the CTRL-ALT-DELETE key combination. It installs (drops) a new W32/Gaobot.worm variant to C:\oms.exe (119,296 bytes) The worm copies itself to the root directory of the root drive, using one of the aforementioned filenames. It does not otherwise install itself on the system (it does not create any registry or other startup hooking locations). Method of Infection This worm attempts to spread via MSN Messenger. From www.mcafee.com This is the new information of new virus that can steal itself from Firewall. PLEASE make sure your Anti-Virus, Scan it after you recieved any files for MSN. stumonster Posted January 21, 2005 Share Posted January 21, 2005 or you could save yourself a lot of drama and uninstall that bloated ad delivery system they call msn messenger. in its place install trillian or gaim or miranda re-evaluate the clients you use - take back control of your equipment.
