Dutch Man Shot Dead

Featured Replies

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT - A Dutch businessman was gunned down at his black tiger prawn farm yesterday in Hua Sai district of this southern province, police said.

Sebastian Lodewilk, 45, was shot three times - in the chest, abdomen and left arm. His body was found in his house at 10.40am but police estimate he had been dead for six or seven hours.

They are investigating three possible motives behind the murder - Lodewilk may have been killed over conflicts with other prawn farmers, during a robbery, or over a row with his two workers. Robbery seemed unlikely, as there was a gold necklace around the victim's neck.

Police are investigating the alleged disappearance of Bt80,000 in cash from his house. Neighbours had told them that he had the amount at his house.

"We are checking whether the money was stolen or his wife took it with her when she flew to the Netherlands," police said.

Lodewilk's Thai wife, a resident of Nakhon Si Thammarat, had recently flown to the Netherlands to ask her in-laws for money to help run their business, police said.

Lodewilk moved to the province six months ago and built the farm on more than 10 rai of land.

Police are trying to locate his two workers and have sent his body for an autopsy.

IN BRIEF: Danish visitor shot dead by gunmen in front of his brother

Published on November 21, 2004

A Danish man was shot to death soon after midnight yesterday in a crowded tourist strip in Pattaya.

Michael Christensen, 31, had parked his motorcycle to receive a phone call from his wife when two young men strode up to him and opened fire. He was shot three times in front of his younger brother, Rene, and died later in hospital.

The shooting, which took place at about 12.40am, frightened scores of tourists and bar workers near the scene.

Michael Christensen leaves a Thai widow, Yommana. The couple lived together for five years in Denmark and were planning to invest in a business in Pattaya, she said.

Police suspect that competing businessmen learned of their plans and organised the assassination.

Christenson was shot on his annual vacation in Thailand. He had brought his younger brother along to celebrate the Loy Krathong festival on Friday. - The Nation.

I'd say that robbery seems a LIKELY motive, since 80,000B's a lot of money and Thais are smart thieves- the necklace could've been traced back to them if they'd pawned it. Most times stolen wallets are dropped after the cash has been lifted.

What do you think Chon, wifey again?

Absolutely , the phone call at time of death would be her alibi ( distancing her from the shooting) yet could also incriminate her ( assasins to look for Danish chap on bike with ringing mobile)

Apparently the guy bought a drink for a girl at the beer bar he was at, The cowardly sihthead thai boyfriend saw this and shot him. (according to my lawyer and a copper who was called to the scene).

I hope they catch the murderous little prick and lock him up, I'm not sure who the guy was but i recognised people by his side at the hospital (on the tv).

Respects to his family. :D

Yes it's the last thing Patts needs at a time like this , poor Bloke. :o

Ifølge Ritzaus oplysninger skulle de anholdte være den dræbtes thailandske kone, konens eksmand og endnu en person.

I have just read the above article in a Danish newspaper.

Translation:

Three people arrested i Thai murder case.

A high ranking Thai policeman confirmed on Monday that the police have arrested three people in connection with the murder of a 35 year old Danish man in Pattaya on Friday.

According to Ritzaus the arrested people are the murdered's Thai wife, her ex-husband and another person.

***** But what about the 80,000 mentioned below?

Police are investigating the alleged disappearance of Bt80,000 in cash from his house. Neighbours had told them that he had the amount at his house.

********* Mentioned earlier, but how did they know?

"We are checking whether the money was stolen or his wife took it with her when she flew to the Netherlands," police said.

Lodewilk's Thai wife, a resident of Nakhon Si Thammarat, had recently flown to the Netherlands to ask her in-laws for money to help run their business, police said.

******** Wouldn't HE be the one to do that, as they are his family, not hers.

And, in this day and age, we generally use telephones and email

for that kind of thing. This isn't like Thai mothers and fathers

coming down to ask the daughter for money.

Lodewilk moved to the province six months ago and built the farm on more than 10 rai of land.

Police are trying to locate his two workers and have sent his body for an autopsy.

******** Shouldn't they be "at work?" or at home from where they would go to work? If they did not show up for work that day... why didn't they?

Don't think she'd have needed an alibi in this case.

How easy is it to have somebody topped in LOS? I know in Turkey it is easy and cheap and guess it is the same there...

Guess you guys with good businesses, money and Thai partners better start wearing bullet proof vests. :o

**********************************************

very easy to have a person shot, very cheap too .

if they think you are muscling in on a patch of good business

you can wind up dead.

also if they want your business too.

its nothing new .

there is some underlying resentment in thailand towards farangs who come here and start businesses. it is common practice to have people considered to be "horning in on ones livihood" rubbed out. my feeling is that other local shrimp farmers were fearful that the farang would out farm them somehow using western voodoo. in the end what is the life of a farang worth here? take the german that was gunned down in chaingmai 4 years ago, his killer never came to justice. or the case of the thai cop who killed two tourist in the south recently, the only reason they care about this is because it could hurt tourism. who cares about dead farangs, dead muslims or dead drug dealers, subhuman and easily disposable.

The problem is with humans, regardless of religion. Humans are just not capable of living together w/o lying, stealing, killing each other. Sad, but that is the way it is. :o
