Car Travel To Malaysia & Singapore

Featured Replies

I'm thinking about driving from Hua Hin to Penang, KL and then Singapore then returning after about 3 weeks away.

Anybody tried this?

What are the [car] documentary requirements? Any other problems?

Advice welcome

I have never done it but was planning to awhile back and was informed not to as Northern Malaysia and Southern Thailand near the boarder is a war zone. Allot of unrest going on there. The advise from my Government was DON'T GO :o

To describe southern Thailand and northern Malaysia as a "War Zone" is, I think, a gross overstatement of the real situation. It seems the Australian Government and the British Government, among many others seem to use any sort of political instability to warn their citizens not to travel to certain Countries, regions of the world. OK, I don't really have any problems with that, it is there responsibility, after all, to ensure their citizens are fully informed before travelling aboard.

However I think you miss the point. Many people, farangs included, make the train journey between Thailand & Malaysia every day and as far as I am aware there are rarely any problems with security. I just want to do the same thing by road!

So, I'll ask the question again:
