Driving To Songkhla

Featured Replies

Anyone out there driven from BKK. to Songklha, if so i would appreciate any advice or information, as I will be making the trip the first of next month.

Yes. Whatever you do, use the main carriageway (4, 41, then 4 again) all the way to Hat Yai and then head for Songkhla. It is a good road the whole way. The coast road from Surat Thani to Songkhla via Nakorn Sri Thammarat (401) is an absolute nightmare. It looks shorter on a map but it is lethal.

BTW, it's a hel_l of a long way from BKK to HY. You'd be best stopping off half way at a hotel (round about the Surat junction). BKK to Surat is about 8 hours. You won't see the first road sign for Hat Yai until the Chumphon junction.

You could go from NST via 403 and 408. I have driven from Hat Yai via Songkhla to Pak Phanang, and that bit of coast at least isn't too bad.
