PPP to renominate Samak as PM : Ubon MP

By Piyanart Srivalo

The Nation

People Power Party MPs decided to renominate Samak Sundaravej as prime minister but it will be up to Samak to decide whether he will accept the nomination or not, a PPP MP said on Thursday.

PPP held an urgent meeting on Thursday to choose a candidate to replace Samak Sundaravej as a prime minister.

Chuwit Pitakpornpairob, an Ubon Ratchathani MP, told reporters during a lunch break that the meeting finished voting which saw Samak picked up as a candidate for the position.

The Parliament is scheduled to convene on Friday to select the vacant top position. PPP's deputy leader Somchai Wongsawat is now acting prime minister.

"The meeting decides to nominate Samak in the parliament tomorrow. However it is up to Khun Samak whether he will accept the nomination or not," Chuwit said.

News reports said earlier that PPP Secretary General Surapong Suebwonglee, Somchai and Sompong Amornwiwat were potential candidates of PPP. However only Surapong attended the Thursday meeting.

Meanwhile Samak appeared for the first time after being disqualified on Tuesday at the Parliament. He refused to talk to reporters who asked him whether he will accep the renomination. Samak left the parliament and reportedly went to see his doctors.

The Nation is now reporting they're going to ask Samak to come back....????

Just when you thought it couldn't possibly get any more retarded...

Apparently Thaksin wants them to back Samak. It remains to be seen if they will all follow slavishly.

It'll get far more retarded than this. Interesting to see Anupong reportedly backing the idea of a government of national unity.

Very well siad Animatic (above) re the poor schooling = indoctrination

Unfortunately, this is not a problem unique to Thailand.

When are people going to figure out that the purpose of pre-university schools is to educate not to indoctrinate. As far as I am concerned, brainwashing of children is child abuse.

It is an excercise in 'Nation Building'.

Remove all differences in people here in your chosen geographic area,

as arbitrarily and forcefully as possible. Uniforms, haircuts, dogma.

Then give them texts, not written by teachers,

but by political philosophers trying to make their points.

Then give them repetitiously someone to dislike for being different.

Like the hilltribes, Khemers and Burmese.

Then harp on that for generations.

One recent comment I saw was that :

Many teachers are not teaching much in class,

but save that for the PAID after school tutoring sessions.

And that the kids can't understand the school books,

unless the teachers write a translation for them, at a fee.

Teachers get too little to live on, a given,

so make sure there is something to be paid to teach a second time.

And the books are so hide bound and out of date that they mean nothing to any child,

if they EVER were clear to any generation, unless redone in an intelligible way by teachers.

This sounds of books written by sycophant academics, working for

an arbitrary leader and 'molder of minds', in tough political times.

Of course EXISTING translations are not disseminated for free, it's for a tutorial fee.

They have been building a nation of followers,

and this goes a long way to explain TRT and PPP and wanting to bring back Samak too.

Followers follow someone with enough power and personal charisma to LEAD,

and blindly following leads to stupid decisions when suddenly cut loose.

Possible some of these folks can not easily formulate new OTHER ideas,

than bring back Samak, because their training in life prevents this independent thought.

There is just a problem with your reasoning, teachers and academics are on PAD side, they never supported Thaksin, Samak or any member of the present majority.

Beside this point, I agree with your opinion of teachers and academics in Thailand, "Many teachers are not teaching much in class .... sycophant academics, working for an arbitrary leader"; which explains their unconditional and pathetic support to the PAD and the "democrats".

Back around 2001 many many teachers and academics were very much on Thaksin's "side" actually. In spite of the attempts by Samak to make this into a whose side are you on forever charade, it is just possible that people do change minds and positions on where thet stand vis-a-vis any social or politcal issue including Thaksin.

As long a speople have the information and freedom and security to make informed decisiosn who cares who they support. The problem is when people are denied one of the necessities to make the informed decison.

Anupong backs the idea of a national government

Army chief General Anupong Paochinda on Thursday expressed his support for the formation of a national government in order to overcome the political turmoil.

Anupong conceded that the idea migth be difficult to materialise unless parties concerned abandoned their partisan interests.

The trouble will persist if political parties don't make sacrifices, he said.

He said he anticipates that the naming of the next prime minister would be crucial on whether the country could achieve a conflict resolution.

Anyone that thinks appointing Thaksin's brother-in-law as Prime Minister is a good idea is just plain crazy.

I agree with you. It will just add fuel to the fire.

Then again, you can bet your life on it, that they will appoint someone who fits into Thaksins plans....

A direct call from London ahead of PPP nomination on PM

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who is living in exile, made a call from London to make his preference known on who should be prime minister, People Power Party deputy spokesman Suthin Klangsaeng said on Thursday.

Thaksin's call happened ahead of today's party meeting to nominate a sole candidate for the job, Suthin said.

Now how sick is that, guys??? A criminal on the run, with warrants out for his and his wife's arrest and he more or less gets to pick who the next prime minister is....and some of you guys are defending this system. It makes me laugh and feel sad at the same time. :-(

I'd like to see Gen. Anapong as PM. He is the only one using common sense and good thinking. Go kick these bozos out Ana, and lets get on with it. :o (Not really. I actually respect his stance of distancing the military from this discussion. Seems that they learned their lesson from the last "sucessful" coup)

So they are taking advice on the next leader of the country from a bail-jumper hiding from an outstanding arrest warrant and several corruption cases, whose lawyer has been done for trying to bribe court officials and whose wife has already been convicted.

Integrity? :D

I agree. Pretty Pathetic, isn't it? Even more pathetic is the fact that some people are still defending this current administration. They are starting to sound sillier all the time :o

They publicly admit they take Thaksin's advice, and then tell everyone they represent the "majority".

Democrats proposed national unity government already, btw.

National unity government, probably for a 18-24 month fixed period, is overdue if anyone actually wants to try and cure divisions and have a meaningful and trusted charter rewrite. Guess it is far too sensible to happen.

And amazingly, they do so openly and brazenly.

And yet...unbelievably, the endless chorus of "Thaksin's out of here." "Get over it, he's finished." "Why focus on Thaksin? He's through" never stops.

Oh come on people think. This is politics 101.

A news article that they talked to Thaksin. (That’s to their primary base of support)

A leak from the meeting at lunch. (Gives him an out)

Think a little bit. (Instead of letting your views or opinion override that process)

So Thaksin called and offered advice. Big deal. "If" he is helping to bankroll the party perhaps his opinion might be important. His political background and experience would certainly carry some weight.

Its not uncommon for past leaders in western democracies to voice an opinion on who might be best to lead their party.

The fact that Thaksin is on the run for tax evasion does not make his advice any less credible. If they locked up every crooked politician in Thailand there wouldn't be anyone to run the country. Ultimately it will be up to the coallition to elect a leader of their choosing.

And of course Thaksins brother in law has as much right to nominate as anyone else. I doubt anyone here would accept being barred from a job because of something their brother in law did as fair.

The discussion in this forum seems to have degenerated to a childish level of late with sniggers and sneers making up the bulk of some posters content.

Based on what the PPP have done so far in terms of confrontationalism I fully expect them to renominate Samak. However, I would like to be pleasantly surprised.

Remember the corpses of Chaiya and Surapong were dragged back from a stake through the heart by the courts. And even though Samak was caught lying and according to Crispin with poorly fabricated documents he'll probbaly also be brought back form his coffin.

Thaksin paranoia seems to be the norm among the PAD supporters.

We seem to forget the PAD leaders are facing charges of treason and attempting to overthrow democracy. Yet their crimes are overlooked by some here in pursuit of the elusive object of their hatred.

You need to understand what the word paranoia means before so haphazardly tossing it about.

No one's forgetting about the PAD leaders, just simply pointing out the absurdity of the belief that Thaksin has quit politics which routinely gets posted. If you stopped adding so many extra meanings that aren't there to what I post, it'd save you a lot of trouble.

We might then be able to avoid...

It has been said often in many countries that the law is an ass. Which basically means that the law is not always perfect in providing justice.

When a PM can be sacked for appearing on a cooking show (for payment) --- the law is an ass.

When the same now ex-PM can be legally reinstated a few days later, -- the law is an ass.

Does being against the corrupt PPP automatically make someone a PAD supporter?

It does not.

It just means some similar goals are in common. Nothing more

You maybe paranoid, but that doesn't mean they are NOT out to get you.

Thaksin wants his money and will not stop. 76 billion reasons not to stop

trying to jigger the system for his benefit, and sod all to the Thai people.

(edit) this was supposed to be a quote on Ando's post #504

Yeah.

That is because PAD's leaders don't hold public positions (yet) and are not (yet) in a position to run and direct the country.

Samak, who has violated the constitution and has therefor already been "fired" from his PM position and is awaiting several court cases, has been re-nominated by a political party which itself faces disbanding for election fraud. This re-nomination has happened on the advice of someone who is a bail-jumping fugitive whose wife is a convicted criminal.

Need to say anything more?

Keep bashing the PAD, their petty crimes are sure worse than the above mentioned by those who are in power (or going to be in power (again)).

Best regards.....
