Pocket Pc Gps Time Sync

Featured Replies

I have a GPS and a Pocket PC and I need the PPC to sync its clock with the GPS message which is accurate enough for my needs, how can I do it? Cannot seem to Google anything worth a download?

IMHO, a better solution would be to find a clock sync program that will get a time signal from a server on the internet.

Assuming that your phone OS is Windows Mobile, Google * Windows Mobile time sync * or * Windows Mobile clock sync *.

I sync from my laptop, which syncs from a time server...close enough. That might be another option for you.

Yes, I do that.

But when I'm on the road working I am often out of GSM range and no access to the Internet so I need GPS as a time reference. For now I am using a program called VisualGPS NMEAtime but that s for the PC only and I active sync with PPC. I need something for the PPC but so far nothing found..

Cheers

I am looking for a Pocket PC app also...if I find something I will update.

In USA most carriers supply time signal to the phone, if your phone supports that. I do not believe that the carriers in Thailand do so, but that is worth checking also. Depending upon your phone, it may also adjust the time zone on your phone (negative for me, I stay on UTC + 7 regardless of where I am).

Here ya go....

Thanks so much for the link... there seems a vast source of info on the gpspassion forums which is mentioned by this product...

I tried the GPS2Blue you mention but cannot seem to get it to work, as do others it seems,s but will search again on the forums...

Hmmmm....it worked for me ok

Did it install ok?

If you download from Tucows, it is the .exe and you have to install from your pc, while connected via USB or Bluetooth and ActiveSync is running.

Otherwise, go to the developer's website, http://users.skynet.be/hofinger/GPS2Blue.html , and download the .cab version directly to the phone and install from there.

When you start the app, the status screen will show something like "GID port: COMn" . At the top, set GPS COM to that value.

Also, under "File", check "Show status if GID used"

For the clock sync, you have to stop the GPS portion first ("Ports must be closed" message will show on the status screen.) I think it reactivates the GPS to get an NMEA sentence for the time.

Good luck!

On my PDA it says GID not available.

I select GPS port Com0 because thats what other programs use to get the GPS message from my Bluetooth GPS receiver and it says when I click ON that GPS Port Opened.Processing data. Waiting for Bluetooth to be enabled. Then nothing much happens, no Long Lat fix, and selecting Adjust PDA Clock to GPS time From RMC just goes to waiting...for good sentence Abort window... So not much luck really...

When you first start the app, on the status screen it should tell you which port is for GID...it was port 4 in my case.

In "Menu" you should see some settings, futz with those a bit. On is "display status" or something like that. Futz with those settings a bit, it will work eventually.

I'm using Windows Mobile 5. Everytime I start GPS2Blue it says GID not available. First question is what is GID? Secondly should I be concerned about the GPS settings under Windows Settings System GPS, which currently I dont use and have all ports set at none. My other GPS software works fine with this.

GID = "GPS Intermediate Driver"

From the FAQ on GPS2Blue website:

"The display of the longitude, latitude and LED only works when you use the GID port. GID means "GPS Intermediate Driver" (also named "Windows Mobile GPS server"). GID is available since Windows Mobile 5. You can activate it in the settings of the PDA (check "Manage GPS automatically"). With GID, you can share GPS data between several applications. To use GID, you have also to use the COM port associated with it."

Take a look here -> http://users.skynet.be/hofinger/GPS2Blue.html

There is some info here also -> http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=55463

Good luck
