Living in Thailand these last few years with my wife, i'm always intrigued by the variety of superstitions and the reasons/meanings behind them. e.g a spirit house should face a certain direction or a particular dream means we must go and buy a specific number on the lottery (the last 2 or 3 digits).

Perhaps I'm exposed to a greater range living "up country" in a small very traditional village but I find it useful in appreciating the land and culture I've chosen as home.

I wonder what superstitions and reasons etc members have come across and are there differences depending on where in the LOS you live ???

Not at all !! We have a book from the local temple that gives a meaning for a dream and certain numbers or the dream may actually contain a number - for example this could be used for picking a number on the lottery.

Yes Cuban - I've seen that but dont get the basis for what numbers they're quoting (unless maybe its from dreams again !) and then how a number is arrived at from what has been written down !!

My wife's m/cycle has seen better days so I have suggested to her that it's time for a trade-in. The present one has, frankly, been a pile of poo and has been consistent in its unreliability. So, what does she want to replace it with? You've guessed it, another of the same model because:

1) It's red and that's my lucky colour

2) It has been a lucky m/c because I haven't killed myself / had any major accidents while riding it.

Never mind the multitude of minor scrapes and bumps that she's had!

The idea that the replacement might also be a pile of poo is, apparently, irrelevant!

I understand that a persons lucky colour comes from the day of the week they were born on so I'm guessing she was born on whatever day is red.

Thats why the King Bhumibol's colour is yellow - he was born on a Monday and government workers and teachers are expected to wear yellow on a Monday (many wear it on other days out of choice to show allegiance to the King).

Is this a Buddhist temple you're talking about? The Buddha taught that dreams were illusory.

Frequently in Thailand although seldom in the U.S. It seems like it's mostly part of social gabbing between family members and friends though. Gives them something else to talk about, other than the latest 'what's going on in the neighborhood'. Everyone seems to have their own 'latest' system that usually changes on a daily basis. Use so and so's date of birth plus their age, or the number of family members, minus any pets, etc. And of course, serial numbers of crisp currency.

Yeah , yeah , that is why there are so many millionaires in Thailand , hundreds of years and they still do not get it , nor even got it , the big win that is .

Moto is a piece of poo , unreliable , change your mechanic to one who 'Actualy ' knows what he is doing , the colour red for a lady has nothing to do with birthday etc , it is a 'Phalic ' symbol , it represents the penile fantasy of an unfullfilled female , but then , size is of comparative use , the aptitude to apply is the true gift of an adiquate provider .
