Shih-tzu Whirlpooled - Lucky Escape

Featured Replies

This morning I walked my three dogs around the rice fields near our house. Four year old Shih-tzu Peenut stopped for a drink in a small fast flowing leat upstream from a small wooden bridge. Before I could get to him he was out too deep and being drawn under the bridge. I rushed to the otherside ready to grab him. He suddenly just disappeared! And in his place to my horror I saw a whirpool!

I immediately realised this was a branch leat and rushed to the other side of the dirt road. To my joy there was a little wet head gasping for breath, it was quite shallow and before I could go in to grab him he found his feet, and stagged to the muddy edge. I then held him upside down and thumped his chest and belly. A little water came out and he soon recovered and trotted back home where he is presently drying out in the sun. Thank goodness his collar didn't snag on anything, otherwise he would have been a goner. If it had been Golden retriever Donut, or Bull Terrier Soda they may well have been too big to get through.

You were lucky....next time you will have to throw the shampoo in and get a dog wash.

I am glad he got through ok.
