Hip Pain

Featured Replies

I am experiencing hip pain when laying down and sleeping. it is very minor when walking or doing anything in the day but very bad when i am trying to sleep. I dont know what this is but it is not the muscle but the bone itself. I have been doing karate all my life and might have worn out the joint? I have laid off the karate the last month but no change. the hip bone still works fine, I walk 4 km with my dog daily and no problem, only when laying down. Might be because i lay on my side and this pushes my joint toward my knees which doesnt happen any other time? this has been going on for several months now. when i went to the doctor he smiled and was trying to give me pain pills which i refused. what could this be.

the last week or two many of my joints are sore but I have been working hard at my house for a bit and that might be something.

I also drink 3 cups of coffee in the morning and eat pineapple as part of my breakfast which i know, both have acid.

I am in great physical condition and not overweight and drink very little alcohol and lots of water

any advice?

thanks

Jimmy

Could be greater trochanteric bursitis.

There are some exercises you can do, also take NSAIDs for a while to knock it down, also sleep with two pillows between your knees.

That's if that is indeed what it is. But is kinda sounds like it to me.

Go ahead and google it and see if it sounds like it to you.

Hmmm, I'm not seeing a really good source from google, I'll try to find something else for you.

How old are you?

And can you describe the pain, e.g. burning, aching or what? Bioth hips or just one? Any difference according to whether lying ion back, side stomach?

61 yo, 6'1", 195#, healthy and doing tae kwon do and mixed marshal arts since 17 and may have worn out the joint. tae kwon do has a lot of leg movement and the left leg is my predominant kicking leg. i can still do everything without pain except lay down

not burning but a deep aching and deep pain in the bone. if i press on it doesnt hurt but when i lay on either side there is a lot of pain. i do try and lay on my back but cant sleep that way, but it hurts then too after laying on my side and I have to keep turning. only on the left hip joint is there pain and only when laying down. i think it has to do with me having my knees together and my hip doesnt like that and laying down is the only time i have my knees together. zz's suggestion with 2 pillows might help, i tried one but no help. i will check his website tomorrow.

Another possibility is sciatica, hopefully not though, it's can be more difficult to treat.

But trochanteric bursitis, sometimes the pain can be reproduced if you push on the bone that makes a bump on the side of your hip
