Certificate Of Residence...swindle?

Featured Replies

So I go to BK Immigration and whilst there go to Room 207 or about that number and supply necessary paperwork and complete the form for the Certification of Residence letter...this letter is free.

So I say can you post it to me please, expecting to be asked for the postage..she says only by EMS...her reason for not doing normal postage was..well I didn't understand it.. So I say ok then thats 37Baht...she says no 100 baht...I ask what happens to the other 63 baht...she says I give it to the helper for posting. Nice little earner for them...looking at the book they do quite as few each week... actually I was getting one 'just in case'. So I can pick it up in three weeks....anyone ever given them a stamped adddressed envelope and got the certificate back that way.

I guess you would have to send your own messenger to pick it up at the immigration office and bring it to the post office :o Remember to give the messenger a power of attorney.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

63 baht to hand carry the item, stand in line and wait and return to the office is a small price to pay for the delivery service.

bla bla bla......FLAME REMOVED

Being an American; I can always go to my embassy and pay the outrageously high "notary fee" for proof of residence, which I think is 1020 baht.

OR

I can pay the 100 baht fee at Thai Immigrations.

Hmmmm, tough decision. ..

I know, :o let me make a post about 63 baht and the injustice of it all.

It is the delay that is the real bugbear.

Your used to be able to get these letters the same day. :o

Hey, you'd be paying for a "service," service of chancing that it'll be good weather, not raining or really hot, when the helper walks out the door to Suan Plu, 100 ft left to the post office, 75 feet in to the stairs, then UP the stairs, of all things, then as mentioned standing in a potentially long line.

BTW, what do you pay to get to Immigration? Not by taxi I hope. #62 bus is the cheapest I'd bet, depending on where you're coming from, and how far you have to go to get to a bus stop. Me, I'd have to drive about 60 km to get into the Sukumvit area where there's lots of free parking, then Skytrain to the Asoke Subway station, underground to Sathorn, walk in the weather what ever it may be up to the #62 bus stop.... Then I'd have to get back to my car and head home. Reckon the yellow tambien ban is cheaper.

I'd pay the baht 100.

I live in Buriram but I'm in Bangkok at the moment, was going to make the trip to Kap Cheong this weekend when I went home to do the same, could I apply at Suan Phlu instead as I'm back down here in a few weeks and it would save me two one and a half hour journeys.

Yes but if they post ten at a time..the order book looked pretty full to me. I paid the 100Baht last time I wanted a letter. Yes I know that my embassy charges about twenty five pounds for a simular letter. I don't have a problem tipping people and appreciate that the messanger probably only gets 250Baht a day wage. However 60+ baht for a few minutes work is in my view over the top. Looks like many have different views.

Actually we parked in BNH as had an appointment there, then got a taxi to Immigration. Then had a meal in Baan Khanitha & Gallery which we walked to. I can recommend it, the food is good and its pleasent there. Then strolled back to BNH. Before anyone comments about the free parking, we had to go back to see someone else there.

Maybe do simular in a few weeks time, when you are retired you can do what you like. Clearly for most the 63Baht is good value and they are correct. This just pissed me off maybe it shouldn't have done, if she had said would you like to tip the messanger for posting then no problem but to demand a tip, to me is different. It might cost me many times more to collect the letter, but I don't care, we will do a bit of shopping and have a meal..give golf a miss for a day.

You seriously think think that the messenger 'post boy' only takes one letter at a time.

Do you think the messenger boy gets the whole of the 63baht for each letter..... :o

It does not really matter.

It is a service and you pay for it.

If you don't like it, then go back in person and collect the letter. :D

I'd be surprised if he gets any of it actually...Shall we close this thread now. I won't be reading it again.

I pay 200 baht a pop at Hua Hin immigration. I asked the very helpful lady if she could print off a total of 3 copies while she was at it. "That's 600 baht kaaaa". :o

At least at Hua Hin they do it on the spot while you wait. :D

As they do in Korat and it is free.

As they do in Kap Cheung and it is free.

100 bht beats the hel_l out of the 2,380 bht the British Embassy charge for this service...

As they do in Korat and it is free.

It always used to be a same day, free service....... :o
