Just wanted to update some info that I was seeking on an earlier post about the American embassy.

I was not allowed in with my husband, Only the people having the interview were allowed in the embassy at all, I told them I would be accompanying him on his trip they said ONLY those who are applying can set foot in the embassy, the rest of us had to wait outside on the street.

They were very polite to my husband, he had the interview in Thai and it was with a farang who spoke Thai.

They interviewed him for 1 minute. It was so quick that I doubted it when my husband told me he had the visa , but the interviewer told him he would give my husband the visa and that they would mail us his passport in 3 days. They never looked at the 28 page binder we had containing ties to Thailand for both him and myself including proof of our relationship etc. They only took a letter of invitation from my dad, the letter from my husband's employer and the application papers. He does have 2 trips to Korea and 3 Canadian tourist visas on there so maybe once they saw that it was a given, plus he is only going for 5 days. But they didnt look at his itinerary, bank book or anything!

So it was all a walk in the park basically!

Anyway a positive experience overall.

Thanks to those who helped us.

Congratulations on getting the visa..

While the O/P's post is short, the information contained in it is of value to ANYONE wanting to take a thai to the US.

As once can see from the post; the applicant demonstrated more than adequate thais to this country. He IS employed. He already has 2 trips to Korea and 3 Canadian tourist visas; showing he does indeed return to thailand (from more developed countries) when the visa is up.

All in all, the only thing the processor and/or interviewer at the US embassy want to see is IF the applicant is going to leave the US when they are supposed to. It comes down to documentation, prove you've got thais here and you can most likely go visit the US.

Too many people come on and complain how they were not able to get their barely educated, unemployed, no bank account, no asset holding paramour a visa to the US. Even someone who is NOT a rocket scientist can see a person like that doesn't exactly fall into the important category of; "most likely to return to their country of origin", now do they?

The rules are the rules. To live here as a foreigner you play by thai rules, however convoluted or randomly interpreted. To go to the US as a foreigner especially from a third world developing country, (which shares no border with the US) you play by the US's rules.

Good luck. Let us know how long the visa is valid for once you get the passport back.

Good points. I would also like it to be known that my husband, while getting his M6 equivilant now (also proof he will return) does not currently have much education. His salary is only 5000 baht a month. However as you have pointed out we were very prepared with proving as many ties to Thailand as possible for not only him but myslef. So while you do not need to make a lot of money or be very educated, you need to prove you and your partner are coming back to Thailand!

I am eager to see how long the visa will be for!

Thanks to all for the congrats, we are as pleased as punch :o

They don’t care how much he makes or how much property he has, what they care about is proving he will return and you having ties to Thailand were the key to that.

Glad it worked out.

So my husband received his passport today. I am not with him because I am in Chiang mai right now. He said that the date of expiration is 2018 but he can not see anything that states how many entries he has. Does this mean he only has a single entry that he can use within 10 years??

^ Sounds like he won the jackpot! That would probably be a 10-year multi.

Now, just remember he has to be nice to the Immigration Officer at the port of entry as all your husband has now is a permit to get on a plane to the US. The ultimate decision is made at the point of entry. Some are easier than others.

Is there such thing as a 10 year single entry? Or are all of them multiple entry?

Has anyone had bad experiences with the officers at the port of entry?

Multi entry, meme. and depends on the guy, look for a friendly one.

Make sure he's got any documentation he might need if they ask where he is going to stay etc, but no, other than a immigration guy who insisted my husband fill out his own customs form cause I had mine in a different line, no problems.

Thanks SBK,

sorry if I seem thick but this means in the next 10 years he can come and go to the US as many times as he wants???

I just cant believe after basically not interview and only looking at his letter from his employer that they would give him this!
