Thailand-Malaysia conduct joint border patrols

NARATHIWAT: -- Thai and Malaysian marine police have tighten security measures against cross-border criminals, including joint patrol along the Su-ngai-Kolok River bordering the two countries.

Thailand’s marine police have asked their Malaysian counterparts in the state of Kelantan to crack down on suspected insurgents who may be crossing the border, linking Thailand's Takbai district in Narathiwat Province and Kelantan, Pol. Lt. Col Narin Putboonmee of Takbai told TNA yesterday.

Marine police from the two countries are jointly patrolling some 70 kilometres along the river and inspecting all vessels travelling along the river and moored at the piers.

The Thai authorities also posted photographs of 46 suspected insurgent leaders in the area in the hope that villagers may be able to tip off the police if they spot the wanted people.

Information and photos were also submitted to the Malaysian police.

The immigration police in both countries also plan to keep a close eye on people who cross the border.

The two sides will share information on peoples’ criminal records through internet connections.

As with all countries which share land borders, when you get to the "official" border, just walk for a couple of km along the boundary line and hop into the neighbouring country!

You can't stop people border jumping, it's impossible!
