Have pain in both of my legs (calfs) after walking about 100 meters; rest for a minute or two and can then walk pain free for another 100 meters. This is a life style issue for me and I want to get relief. Anyone had this problem and what was your treatment and results. Any Doctors to recommend.

Thanks for the help.

You need an evaluation from a vascular surgeon as soon as possible. With both legs affected, it means the problem is in the abdominal section of the arterial supply to the legs; it may be anything from just artherosclerosis with plaques narrowing the artery or an aneurism. This can be quite serious.

I'm not a vascular surgeon,so take my comment in perspective :o

Assuming your physician gives you a choice between the two, you might want to look at surgery over the stents. If one looks at the studies that have been published on stents vs bypass surgery, the conclusions favour the surgery. Stents have a habit to lose effectiveness far quicker than the bypass. Something to discuss with the surgeon.

That being said, I don't think the issue will be one of stents or surgery. I agree with FBN. Someone has to take a look at your circulation. There is also a chance this may have nothing to do with circulation. It could be a nerve issue that arises in your spine, or it alot of other possibilities. Time for a very thorough check up.

I had a similar problem and went to St. Louis hospital here in Bagkok for a routine physical. Cost about 5,600 Baht. THey found a very large Abdominal aortic aneurysm during the Examination. I saw a cardiologist and then met with a surgeon and had surgery to repair the aneurysm. The total cost including 7 days in a private room came to about 265,000 baht. The hospital staff, cardiologist and surgeon were all great. I am now walking about 5 Kilometers a day and have a whole new appreciation for life. Check out St. Louis Hopsital. it was wonderful

I've had generally good experienes at St. Louis Hospital also, but upon my last visit there I was directed to the cardiovascular department because of a swelling in my ankle and leg. After examination, the doctor diagnosed "deep vein thrombosis" and put me on blood-thinner and also blood pressure medication. DVT, as it is called, should be confirmed by ultrasound (radar) and in this case the ultrasound did not indicate a thrombosis (clot). But the doctor said my case presented as a classic DVT anyway. That was a month ago. The swelling did not go down and the calf and ankle became even more swollen and a rosy red colour. The doctor continued to treat as DVT.

I arrived in California last week and went to my general physicial here. After 30 seconds of examination, he said "that is NOT DVT! You have an infection and cellulitis. Stop taking those risky meds! You just need antibiotics."

I've been on antibiotics for a week and my calf and ankle are nearly back to normal. My advice, ALWAYS get a second opinion, even when using a "good" hospital.
