toastwars
what time were you there? 6am? were you already drunk when you arrived? Maybe they thought the wine would go better with duck than beer
what a life
It's 12 o clock last orders at Villa Mart too. But my local 7/11 and family mart sell all hours. Different rules for different shops, different rules for different areas and the same shops too as 7/11 near k san rd will not sell beer after 12 or 1 too. Madness. ProfessorFart
Sounds like England in the 1980s......... Talk about more backward steps. It would make it better if they just came out and said 'bars open til 1am period, no booze anywhere after midnight period' At least you'd know where you stood. Its all this confusion I can't be doing with.

erasmus
New rule, not sure if its law, apparently they only can sell it between 11am-2pm then 5pm-midnight . <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Same in Tops. But basically, it means you can not buy beer/wine/... in between 2 pm and 5 pm. Most of us should be able to survive that law. I think...
ProfessorFart
When did this law come in? and more importantly, why?
350torana
Yeah, went to Tops this arvo. It was 4 o'clock and wasn't allowed to buy booze. Check out chick had to put my beer under the counter, there must have been another 10 bottles there . Oh well, on the way home stopped at the local Soi cornershop had no problems , although it was 4:50 . I am sure it is the big supermarkets who obey this rule, more than small stores . qwertyuiop
When did this law come in? and more importantly, why? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Earlier this year if I am not mistaken. Do search in the news section of the forum. I am sure you will find the relevant information there. It was brought in at the sametime as the hours the bars and restaurants are supposed to sell alcohol in an attempt to keep Thailand and especially their youth pure
ProfessorFart
It just seems so pointless not selling it in the afternoon! All thats oging to happen is that everones going to go shopping later in the day and the supermarkets are going to be rammed!!

SiamJai
Yeah - it would make a lot more sense not to sell it at all.

350torana
Maybe this law came in early in the year. But, i think it has only beeen enforced the last few days. Never had any problem buying beers in the middle of the day at supermarkets until today. Note, don't drink them, but nice to get them yen mak in the fridge about the time the sun goes down. Anyone know if 7-11s, Tiger marts ect are enforcing it?

No doubt it is still possible at all hours to purchase booze at any of the road side service stations and stops. sonthaya
TIT, what do you expect, they just made the early closing of bars at 1 o'clock and still expect people to travel half way around the world to be put early to bed, that's to be seen on he tourist income next year

lingling
I got stung by that one today too. Dropped in to 7-11 after work (around 18:30) to buy a few beers just to find a blocked fridge. A sign on the fridge said that they are not allowed to sell beer between 17:00 and 24:00. Asked the cashier why and she blamed the police. So I went to the family mart next door and bought more beer than I would have just in case there was a beer shortage or something...
timonase
Just tried it today at the tecso on srinakarin Road, no probs at all!! Maybe the law is so new even all shops know about, and maybe some never will find out.
Jowels
Are the members reporting problems based in BKK?
