Tourist Visa Enter Before Date Question

Recommended Posts

My 2nd entry on my 2x entry Tourist Visa is due, and it says on the Visa itself "Enter Before 20th October" which is Monday, and i obviously couldnt do a border run over the weekend, so im now wondering when i goto Myanmar and back in on Monday (the 20th) will they void the visa saying its expired or will they take into account the weekend as you cannnot do visa runs on weekends? Any help much appreciated as i have 1 day to sort this out!!

Borders are open on weekends ..... so that's not so obvious ...

But I think you would be ok going Mon (though of course .... like anything else ...)

Well fingers crossed, if they only give me a 30day stamp its going to cause me some grief....anybody else have any advice? And here i was thinking you couldnt cross the border on weekends, now i think about it, it doesnt even make sense haha!

Thnks JD

This is the big question, but I wouldn't chance a tourist visa by leaving it so late. I don't know about the Myanmar border, but there are plenty of borders open on Sunday, so I hardly think that's a good excuse.

I did read a report on here awhilel ago about a guy going to Myanmar on the enter before date and they would only give him 30 days. They (immigration) made a big deal about the "enter before" meaning to enter BEFORE that date, not on it.

Seems to me that "before" means just that.

Now sure as hel_l someone will crop up here with a story of how they were able to enter on that date, brah brah brah.

I would not mess with it, I would go before that date. But up to you.

I also do not understand why you cannot do a border run on a weekend. If you are concerned about doing it on the weekend, and your "Enter Before" date is the Monday, then do the border run on Friday.

Do it today. As has been said enter before means exactly that.

No problem to cross border today.

Problem was i was only looking at my previous 30 day extension stamp and didnt even think to look at my "Enter Before Date" until Saturday evening..tried to call many visa companies but they were not answering, and i posted this thread after midnight...so i guess tomorrow is the day and i hope they dont reject me...which im sure they will =/ my fault i guess....should have done it on friday

Well it went well, both me and my buddy with identical TV's from Laos both with "enter before 20th oct" dates where both granted our second entries today the 20th Oct! so a big relief for me! i went to the Andaman club in the hope they were a little nicer there as the Ranong staff are a-holes! anyway went well so hopethis helps anyone with the same problem in the future.

I'm pleased to hear it went well for you.

Now the question is: will you do that again next time, or go the day before?

I think I'll still play it safe by going the day before.

i'm still owed my one lucky time then. *almost* got in after missing my 'enter before' at the airport, because the girl was talking with her friend. she caught her mistake though and gave me the 30 day stamp.

  • 2 years later...

Hello all. I just had this exact same experience a week ago, and I am happy to say that in my case the news is good.

I have a non-immigrant, B visa.

The Visa sticker said "ENTER BEFORE 31 January" ... and I didn't realize that until too late on Jan 30 to go to my normal cambodia visa run.

So the best I could do was to do my visa run on January 31.

I do my visa runs with Jack's Golf. The bus to the cambodian border, leave at 5am, etc. When I made my appointment with Jack's Golf, on the phone the I explained that the visa said "Enter BEFORE" and I would be re-entering ON that date. She said "It is OK, no problem."

So, on January 31, I took the bus, walked with Jack's Golf folks into cambodia, sat in the casino, bla bla. And when I got my passport back from the Jack Golf people prior to our walking back into Thailand... there it was, the stamp with the full 90 day duration, thank god, not 30 days.

I can't say if this reflects the actual normal policy (that "enter before" usually means "last date you can enter is...") ... or if I was given the benefit of the doubt because the Jack Golf people work with the visa people every day... or if I was given the benefit of the doubt because it's a B visa... or if I just got lucky and it's a 50% chance or worse or better. I really don't know, but I would say this: It went OK for me, so that is one more experience you can put onto the wall.

Good luck folks and... do your visa runs early and avoid the worry!
