Just heard that Immigration is going to make the following changes to business visa requirements, and wondering if anyone can confirm:

1) People with work permits who do not have 1 year business visa extensions and are doing 90 day visa runs will be required to go to a Thai consulate in their home country for the 90 day visa renewal, beginning in Feb 09.

2) Minimum salary required for a 1 year business visa extention will be increased. People with minimum salaries of Bt50k per month will be increased to Bt60k. Not sure when this is supposed to take effect (or perhaps it already has?)

If anyone has any info direct from Immigration confirming or denying the above, would be appreciated.

if they do it, they are shooting a bullet in their own foot.

more and more illegal workers who will work without paying tax will appear not to mention making the country even more bisuness unfriendly than it is actually with their rules who do apply mainly to big corporations.

Which is not unheard of, in this kingdom.

It would not be the first time.

And let us face it, with around 25% less tourist bookings, there is some room for more restrictions on businesses.

Right?

A lot of people will be very worried reading the original post. Before we get an endless stream of posts, I hope this rumour will be quickly nipped in the bud OR confirmed by a clickable link to a Thai government statement. I hope one of the sponsors like Sunbelt or Siam Legal will chip in.
