Help For Translation

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

i would like to know what ไทยลุยแม่งโลด really means.

i found that comment bellow a picture of members of thai's army On Thai-cambodian Border around the ancient Preah Vihear temple.

in english phonetic i know i can read that "thai loy maaeng lot" and i am also aware that ลุย means something like " to be ready to fight"

แม่ง is a rude interjection used to express extreme disappointment, anger and all sorts of bad tempers

but what about โลด ? i am still deadlocked with that word...i didn't manage to find a meaning which can add some sense...

" thai people are fuc_king ready to fight "may be ok for a good translation..

what do u think about that guys ?

I am told that it is very bad slang and not worth bothering with. 'go for it' is what it means. The first two words are in the dictionary and แม่ง is a play on the word mother apparently the ง is meaningless but does mean that the word Mother is not being used. I was told that โลด is an Isaan word but I just looked that up and as a verb, it is to jump for joy; can't see anything wrong with this but I am not Thai so I will forget it. I did get an additional word though, cheers.

I suppose that it means "fast" or "quickly" in this context.

Ok i see now.

many thanks for your help. :o

แม่ง is a play on the word mother apparently the ง is meaningless but does mean that the word Mother is not being used.

I've been told แม่ง comes from แม่มึง, although I am not sure if this is a folk etymology or not.

It is considered very rude language just like you say.

In the SEAWrite award-winning novel พันธุ์หมาบ้า by ชาติ กอบจิตติ it is written as แม่-ง.

I'd say แม่ง can refer to แม่มึง or แม่มัน when you hear anyone use it. It's swear word which is considered as rude language but you would be able to hear people use this word all the time. If I have to translate from English to Thai, I would translate "son of the b-tch" or "shit" or "dam_n" as "แม่ง". As you guys might often see it on Thai subtitles.

โลด is from Isaan word. It's equivalent to "เลย" in Central Thai language.

ไทยลุยแม่งโลด can be written in polite form as "ไทยลุยมันเลย". :o
