Getting A Credit Card In Thailand

Recommended Posts

Thailand does have a credit rating system and procedure - and as another member has corretcly stated it has been in place since around 2004/5.

How effective it is, I know don't but it's the same model used in Europe and America and put together by the same organisation (know the name just can't remember off-hand).

To those who think that this is a way to build a credit rating - not so!

The very fact that the bank is holding funds as security is the very instrument they use to bypass the credit scoring process. I don't think it counts two-hoots towards building a credit score.

So I am teacher working at an international school in Bangkok, with a work permit making 65K Baht/month. I've only been here 5 months, all the while I customer with Krung Thai bank.. Is it impossible for me to get a credit card without doing that whole deposit thing? It seems so after reading these posts, but my friend made it seem so easy... I wouldn't be surprised if I couldn't, but I am desperate and hopeful at the same time...
