The PAD are a brunch of elitest dicators. They don't care about the poor. They only care about their own class of people. Yes, Thaksin, did corrupt things like who doesn't in Thai Politics. He did not commit any major offense to justify a military coup or all this protest by PAD. PAD is another corrupt organization that are elitest and don't care about the poor people in Thailand. It is a class war, Middle/high class vs the lower class. Who will win is the big question.

*red text enclosed within asterisks* has been the standard poster comments for quite some time...

It stands out enough that people haven't questioned it before.

Ok, if thats the accepted house style, no problem.

Actually, this is not well received by a number of ThaiVisa members, as it detracts from the news report and puts a biased spin on it.

It also makes it difficult for other members to quote some or all of the news report if it has your personal comments in it.

Appreciate your cooperation and understanding on this.

Unlike the title of this thread.??? There was another thread titled : " UDD Rallies at Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok " but that was closed and replaced with this ??? In fact, reading back through this long thread it seems that no one can agree on what Thaksin said. Several members gleefully painted a picture of Thaksin ' begging ' for foregiveness but now have ditched that approach and are now saying Thaksin was disrespectful and threatening ??? Even the Bangkok Post has dropped the ' asking for forgiveness ' line and is reporting the ' threatening and disrespectful ' attack. Spin docters working overtime or what ? :o

Lets be blunt. Thaksin wants his money and power back and nothing is going to be allowed to stop him getting what he wants. That is his endgame. Everything he and his proxies say and do is aimed at causing that under any circumstance.

It just remains a question of will he suceed. There will be lots of collateral damage along the way whatever happens.

Absolutely true. This alpha male won't stop till they put him in the ground.

Also true. Tax evasion and land scams are small potatoes in Asia. PAD are not 100% savoury either.

So really everyone is right. I agree with everyone.

Military blasts Thaksin for involving King

The military top brass yesterday declared fugitive former PM Thaksin Shinawatra's speech at the Rajamangala Stadium rally "out of bounds." The remarks, made during a 10-minute phone-in on Saturday, were the centre of yesterday's meeting of the armed forces leaders, the Supreme Commander, and the Defence Permanent-Secretary. According to a highly-placed military source, Thaksin's speech was "out of bounds" and appeared to put pressure on His Majesty the King. In one of the most controversial parts of his speech, Thaksin told his supporters at the rally that nothing could bring him home apart from royal clemency or the power of the people. "[Thaksin's remarks] have involved His Majesty in politics. His comments are out of bounds. He was talking about royal clemency in spite of a guilty verdict by the court," said the source. The military leaders would coordinate with the Lawyers Council in carefully examining Thaksin's remarks for lese majeste, said the source. They also believed Thaksin was likely to make similar comments again. The source said the top brass were concerned Thaksin's remarks will be used to incite his supporters to campaign against the two-year jail sentence given him by the Supreme Court. Defence Permanent-Secretary Gen Apichart Penkitti said Thaksin's speech troubled military leaders. "To us, Thaksin's remarks bring discomfort to His Majesty the King. He should not have involved His Majesty,"," Gen Apichart said. Opposition Democrat Party Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva called on PM Somchai to block the planned broadcast of Thaksin's speech on the Truth Today political talk show on the state-run NBT channel. Mr Abhisit said Thaksin's speech was widely seen as highly controversial and could be insulting to the judiciary and the monarchy. He said broadcasting it would show the government's insincerity about solving the political stalemate and its willingness to be Thaksin's

There can't be many countries other than Thailand where military sources are quoted in the media so extensively on non-defence issues. The correspondent must have quite a rolodex! There is a wide school of thought elsewhere that soldiers should refrain from comment on political matters - especially to newspapers.

What SJ said,

plus I think they are essentially another branch of the government

Executive, Judicial, Legeslative, Defensive.(intern/external) At least that's how it looks.

Each has it's pervue and some overlapping pervues.

Well, here goes the Ex-PM'S Public Relations Agency again.... there were days, when radio was just introduced and in Germany this particular little Radio, at a certain time was nick named "Goebbels Schnauze", because all that could be heard was what came out of the Minister of Propaganda's mouth!

besides, what an argument, "Yes, Thaksin, did corrupt things like who doesn't in Thai Politics".. :o "Yes people steal, so what, who doesn't?"

Does this circumstance makes stealing not a crime?

Does the fact that certain people do brake the laws, some again and again, others knowingly, does this make those crimes, no crimes?

Are we trying to whitewash certain facts here...?

Somchai says PPP has nothing to do with attempts to seek royal pardon for Thaksin

Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat said Tuesday that the People Power Party has nothing to do with its MPs' attempts to seek a royal pardon for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

He said the on-going campaigns by some PPP MPs to gather signatures of the people to submit a petition for a royal clemency for Thaksin were private matter and had nothing to do with the party.

The Party Leader and Prime Minister distancing the Party and himself from his Party members. :o

this absurd circus of a government just rolls on... :D

(it's also a nice dry-run, however futile, of his trotting out the contention his Party will defend itself with against the dissolution of the Party because of the actions of its Party executives)....

and this coming on the heels of the Prime Minister stating that his Party MP Chai is not part of "the government" in another thread... sad these clowns are paid wages from taxpayers...

PM says Mr Thaksin's petition for Royal Pardon personal issue

The Prime Minister says deposed premier Thaksin Shinawatra's petition to be pardoned by His Majesty the King is a personal matter.

Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat commented on People Power party MPs amassing names on a petition calling for a Royal Pardon for former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, saying that it was the personal choice of the MPs. He said that their right to do so would have its legality reviewed.

When asked about disagreement from coalition members on the establishment of a Constitution Drafting Assembly, PM Somchai said that he would push forward on the matter but is ready to listen to opinions. Mr. Somchai said a meeting between the coalition parties will be held to discuss the issue tomorrow while reminding that the concept was initiated by the House Speaker and not the government.

The only problem is that its like holding hands in the bomb shelter. The one to lead has to come out first and there's a high risk of getting one's head blown off.

Our leader Somchai Wongsawat didn't appear to be having too many problems getting his head blown in those videos :-)

:o

Newin goes a-begging to London

Distancing himself from the crowds at Rajamangala stadium on Saturday may be one of the reasons why former "Gang of Four" member can't enter Thaksin Shinawatra's inner circle.

Besides, this could mean serious trouble for the politician, because he can't even take refuge in Puea Thai party once the ruling People Power Party is dissolved. The key founders, Yongyuth Tiyapairat and Sudarat Keyuraphan, can't stand the man.

So, what's he to do when PPP disbands? Since he can hardly move to the opposition Democrat Party, perhaps the only solution would be for him to find financiers and set up his own party.

Rumour has it that Newin - realising that his political future looked bleak - decided to go grovelling to the Big Boss in London. He flew to British capital two weeks ago, under the pretext of helping his daughter settle in at school there. Instead he was spotted spending time with the boss - even watching a football match with.

Then, last weekend, apparently in a move to strengthen the relationship further, Newin flew to Hong Kong with Thaksin's cousin Chaisit to meet the exiled PM.

This time his purpose was clear - he wanted Thaksin to fund the new party. Apparently, Newin promised Thaksin that this new party would help PPP retain power. In fact, Newin said his "medium-sized party" may even be the winning factor in the next coalition.

However, the Man in London did not go for Newin's offer, insisting that he needed no substitute parties other than Puea Thai.

So, should we expect fireworks soon? Will Newin forgive Thaksin for saying no to him during his times of trouble?

Difficult to answer, cause it's all about power, if he will be need, he'll be called.

His problem is that they started to think that they may be able to do some power wrestling just for the fun of it, but fr this Takky is way too much up himself, he wants absolute obedience, as he aims for absolute power, he has demonstrated it so many times how can someone misread this?

Only someone who is very much up himself, the Chidchob Clan has made a wrong move and fell from grace, for the time being!

This has and will go on and on, till it's stopped, once and for ever!

Way too much to lose!

"Money for nothing and the Chicks For Free".... free, free, free and power on top of it, what a life!

As some rouge boys assumed their fathers name was simply enough to make the "world shudder"...and they did..

There other reports/rumours that Thaksin agreed to the plan for Newin to set up a second pro-Thaksin party to ally with the first. I guess we will find out sometime. Might as well have the disolution now so we can be spared the weight in the ongoing great game.

Even if someone, or a group of someones, applies for a pardon on behalf of Thaksin, what do you think the chances are of it ever being granted ?

I say, ZERO.

Remember, the coup that kicked him out had the (silent) blessing of the same that would grant such a pardon. Discussion at the time made mention of the fact that it appeared Thaksin was trying to supplant the same (or at least raise himself to the same level), henceforth the coup was not condemned (publicly) in any way by the person that could have had the most influence on it all.

I can't see them suddenly having a change of heart, that would effectively allow Thaksin to come back and start doing the same things all over again.

What a slap in the face it would be if Thaksin & company applied for a pardon, and it was rejected. PAD would be elated, and Thaksin's supporters would have their hopes crushed. Hard to imagine them protesting such a decision (as that would be a protest against the most revered person in the country). I think the "reds" would be very blue.

In five or ten years time it might be a wholly different ballgame.

The ONLY thing you can count on in Thailand is CHANGE.

While some things never change...yet they do.

As long as Thaksin is breathing he will be maneuvering a comeback.

And likely with LESS democracy than in version one....

I can say for certain that Thailand is no more or less corrupt this past 8 years than in the 10 years prior to Thaksin's emergence on the scent.

The trouble with loyal Thaksin supporters like you is your only defence for all the illegal activity and corruption that occured during Thaksin's reign is that it was no more or less corrupt than other periods - and that he is no more or less corrupt than other politicians.

Rather than supporting someone who you seem to be saying is the lesser of two evils, why don't you raise the bar out of the gutter and find someone to support who actually has a shread of honour, decency and integrity?

The only problem with your point Rixalex, is that PAD doesn't have a single leader who has a shred of of honour, decency or integrity.

Crooked businessmen, religious maniacs, cold-blooded killers? You name it, PAD has them!

True. its really sad that there are no decent options for the electorate. A lot of people were hoping that the democrats might be able to rise above all this turmoil but Aphisit has proved a great disappointment. Even the student body has given no significant support to any of the factions which is a noticeable change from the past. Another sad development is the way the good name of the Royal Family has been exploited by the media for the sake of sensationalist headlines. A very sad thing which can only create more division.
