First of all, its generally not a requirement to get a police check for purposes of employment other than if becoming an English teacher.

You may however have to get one if the company requires it, in your case it wouldnt be a requirement for the visa.

Visa process:

Company you are working for will provide a heap of company paper work, which you will take to Thai Embassy/Consulate with your passport...if paperwork is straight you will receive a Non-imm B visa.

You can travel to Thailand and start work, the Company should have made the application for the work permit...in two weeks, 1 month or two months (depends how good your company is in expediting this) you will get your blue work permit book.

Your employer in Thailand will have to supply all the documents needed to even to get a non immigrant B visa (90 days)at the Thai consualte in Malaysia.

After arriving they will have to do all the paper work to get you a work permit.

You can not do it alone to do it legaly. Your employer has to be envolved.

Here is a link to the Thai embassy in KL that gives visa info: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/1387.php?&id=2881

No its not free, you have to pay for the visa yourself and claim the money back from your company.

No you dont need to go to Malaysia labour dept

Submit paperwork + passport 1 day and pick up the next, this is for the visa, not the work permit, Work permit gets taken care of in Thailand

You seem to be getting mixed up its two separate documents and two different goverment departments

Visa = Thai embassy/consulate outside Thailand

Work Permit = Thai labour department, inside Thailand

For visa there will be a fee at the consulate. It should be on the website I gave you. Visa should normally be issued the next day after application.

For work permit and a visa extension there will be additional fee's.

I can't anwer your questions about anything on the Malaysia side of things.

Yes. It's all on there and more.

Form is free and can be downloaded.

The Visa is 2,000 Baht.

Visa application form is free.

A non-B visa will cost you some amount ($60 I think) and you will get it for 3 months. One year visa is also available which would cost probably more. Once you get 3 months visa, you can extend it in Bangkok anytime , of course with the help of your employer. I recalled my 3 months visa cost me about 1,900 baht and another 9 months extension cost me 1,900 baht too.

As for work permits, your employer should pay for that (as in my case). If he does not pay for work permit, it would cost you around 3-4k baht (i think, but not sure).

Keep in mind if you are from poor countries like India, Philipines etc, you have to go back to your own country to get the non-B visa, as you cant get it in Malaysia.
