Usa: Does Point Of Entry Matter?

Featured Replies

Fiance has K1 visa already.

We plan to travel from Thailand to USA in November. Specifically through SFO (San Francisco), to RNO (Reno), which is my official residence and the one that I used in her visa application.

As I search for tickets, I'm finding it easier to get a ticket through Hawaii (go figure!).

So I'm considering a 2-3 day layover in Hawaii on our way to Nevada.

This will be her first time to the US, and I just don't want to encounter any unforeseen issues by trying to enter through Hawaii instead of SFO, and having a layover before moving on to our official address.

Does port of entry matter when a person with a K1 visa goes to the USA? Does it matter if you have a layover in a place like Hawaii before moving on to the sponsor's residence?

I hate to be paranoid, but I'm concerned about mystical nuances that could result in the immigration officer at the port of entry denying her entry...

Thanks in advance.

I shouldn’t think the POE would matter. She is entering on a valid non-immigrant visa with the intent to get married. Sounds like Hawaii would be a good place to start.
