Is it possible to stay in Macau 6 months+ without getting a job there? I'm American.

Standard rules are 30 days on arrival, then you can go to Hong Kong by Ferry and get another 20 days. However at the end of that you'll need to leave for a month before you can return.

Searching for a loophole or a way to get a longer term visa or at least the ability to endlessly extend by going to HK or Mainland China.

Thank you.

I used to spend a lot of time in Macao and HK, if you are American, you should get 6mths initially, trips to HK used to get me another 6mths, I used to go every week... NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!!!... a friend of mine from the Uk, did this for years while living in macao... although he works there... but his visa stamps were only for 6month periods so i believe at a time in mac and HK...

hope you find your loophole... perhaps the situ has changed from when i used spend alot of time there a couple years back... good luck!

UK Passport holders currently get 6 months on entry to Macau, however US Passport holders only get 30 days. I specifically asked immigration if I could simply go to Hong Kong every 30 days and return, and they told me this is not possible. They said after I returned the first time I would get an additional 20 days, then I would need to leave for at least a month before returning. However I have not tried this so maybe that is the rule but in practice they don't follow it, would be nice to hear from somebody who has actually done this recently with an American passport.

You don't need to do anything for Macau or Hong Kong (can even bring a Thai with you, they don't need a Visa either). Just book your ticket, get off the plane and get 30-days. I'm not certain how long you can stay in Hong Kong but I know you do not need a visa, just take a ferry over there. If you want to enter mainland China is the only time you need a visa.
