Getting Clothes Made In Bangkok...

desi

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I have an Xmas ball to attend early December. And while I knew who to go to where I lived last, I don't here.

Also, women friends who got things sewn in BKK went to men's tailors, who did a poor job fitting them up.

I'm going for simple over froo froo, so shouldn't be too difficult to whip up. But, I would like it to hang right.

So, does anyone know of a dependable place to get clothes made?

C & P in Sukhumvit Road. Between Sois 10 and 12 do a really good job. Two chinese sisters and work is done on the premises unlike a lot of tailors who send stuff out to Pratunam for sewing. Have had a few things made there and was really pleased. Also heard good reports about Dino. At the bottom of the Sky train steps opposite Robinsons department store. Friend recently had a fantastic skirt made there, bias cut as well which is something a lot of tailors/dressmakers screw up.

Good luck.

lol, thats what I'm on now, lost all the baby weight but started on the gym now to tone the wobble. :D

I remember those days. They are a wee bit behind me now (and that's not all that's tagging behind :o

I'm seriously looking into some insane measures for this fitting as my scare tactics didn't work.

Dear hubby... do you realise how you seriously don't like dancing?

Not a whimper.

Dear hubby... do you realise how I seriously LOVE dancing and will not sit quite while everyone else is having a ball?

I swear I could feel his head hanging via email, but, no pleasure out of that one either!

Dear hubby... do you realise how seriously expensive it's going to be to have a ball gown made?

He didn't budge. Not even an OUCH! came from that man.

And my latest one, just five minutes ago...

Dear hubby... do you realise I'll have to spend tomorrow afternoon at Paragon, looking for just the right material?

Nope. Nadda (and I'm not even sure about Paragon but a mere mention in the past has always made him quiver).

He seriously does not like dancing. Or balls. Or spending money...

Sigh... and as nothing worked, looks like I'm going to this ball. So, it's no delicious foods for a month, and green smoothies every day.

Just so I can have a wonderful outfit for sitting in.

Well, at least they are serving breakfast (yeah, it's going to be a loooooooooooooooong sit down...)

I'll start Wednesday...

Desi, maybe you'll find a dancing partner at the ball & hubby will be forced into dancing with you in a fit of jealousy :o

Enjoy your wedding!

Thanks, we've actually been married for over 5 years but never got round to the thai ceremony/piss up bit so... as my family are managing to make it out to LOS for the first time ever we decided to put on a bit of a show for them (and hubbies fam too of course :D )

Your wedding will be so much fun for everyone (even with wedding stress ;-)

And a first for LOS? Whooh. They are sure to love it and you'll start to have a run of close family dropping by (just a prediction). Compared to other places I've lived, my house feels like a happy hotel at times. Friends just love coming to Thailand, and find any excuse. Next year there are several moving out here (7), so I'm chuffed!

I use Siam Emporium in Siam Center. GREAT tailors and completely trustworthy. I've been a customer of theirs for four years now and am 100% satisfied. They just made a jacket for my wedding and shipped it to Renu Nakhon, took two days.

There are a ton of tailors out there making great stuff for guys (I'm assuming you are a guy?). Problem is, when it comes to us gals, these very same tailors fall short. It's like they've developed the inability to listen or something. Baggy pants instead of the requested tailored. Shirts and dresses not hanging quite right. Dunno, maybe there's a lot of difference between sewing for girls and guys? I never had any problems switching between the two, but I've never designed from scratch (I use patterns) so maybe I'm not seeing something here.

OMG, this topic came up at exactly the right time. I was just trying to figure out the best place to have some clothing custom made for myself.

My fiance just had some suits and shirts made by Jesse and Victor, and he has just been going on and on and on about how beautiful they are, how they fit so well, how nice the fabric is... and on, and on, and on... blah, blah, blah. Such a clothes horse.

I am so envious, and although I'm stuck over here for now, I'll be in need of some skirts and blouses the next time I'm over there. And, MORE IMPORTANTLY, it will be time to have my wedding dress made. It will be non-Asian style, but it won't be a debutantesque white satin ballgown, if you know what I mean. It's a second marriage, and I'm no young, blushing bride. I want something different, and with some color, probably made from Thai silk. I'd be thrilled if it were something I could use again for other formal events. (too practical for my own good)

Anyway. I'm rambling. Has anybody else used this dressmaker? Does anybody have any other recommendations?

I had a few tailored/shirts office work suits made up and a formal evening dress made about a year ago (dont know if she is still there) by a lady who works from home; Valaiporn Bunnag (Pum); 187/soi Prasertsit Sukhumvit 49/14; Phone 01449 0011; lots Aus/NZ embassy ladies use her for formal evening wear.  Pim is quite a large frame lady and understands quite well the difficulties us western ladies can sometimes face with fitted clothing in Bangkok. She is a real professional, and does up sketches and such.  You can choose to buy your own material, or she can have it ordered in for you. She gets pretty busy around Xmas time so best to give her a call well in advance, and leave plenty of time for fittings, she is very particular about this.

Girlx; you might want to try (i.f.tailor, 10 Suriwongse Road; opposite Jim Thomson Thai Silk, Bangkok). Initially he was recommended to my brother for suits.  I havent had jeans made with him, but have had some altered and got him to copy a couple of my fav golf cotton shirts. He has a wide selection of material in the shop so you may find something suitable. Lots of touts around that area who will do their utmost to steer you away from going into his shop. Its not a trendy place, by any means, family run business and he has apparently been there for years. 0234 8184, 0237 0803.

Bringing up this old one for a quick question. Will tailors also do alterations? I have a fabulous (and expensive!) pair of pants (trousers for the British) that I bought in the US and need them taken in as I have since lost weight. Given the cost and the fabulosity of these pants I can't just put them in the fat clothes box. :o

Well, on Silom, I and my son and daughters and my son's bride had wonderful clothes made for wedding clothes and business suits. Plus they keep your measurements for 5 years, and he has just made me two more pairs of trousers recently delivered.

And replaced the zip in v ordinary trousers from M&S for almost nothing.

A good and honest tailor is worth a lot. (The last tailor before the Hindu temple, walking towards the river).

Hi,

My wife would like to have a classic, chinese style, silk dress made in Bangkok, you probaly know the kind of dress I'm talking about.

Its boddy hugging with a split at the legs and a nice flower or chinese dragon pattern on it.

Would C & P be the right tailors for this? You mentioned two chinese sisters working there.

Would they be able to get the right embroiderd silk material for it though? Or would we have to source it from somewhere?

Someone advised we go and have a look in China town???

Any advise you could give would be greatly appeciated.

Kind regards,

Armand :)

Timely bump, Bikbergen.

I have found some wonderful thai silk that we bought for my mother years ago (some mudmee, and some regular) that I would like to have made up into clothes. Has anyone tried Kaz49's recommendation or have one to offer of their own for a tailor who will make clothing from someone else's material?

Most of my male colleagues use Jesse & Victor at Rajawongse Tailor, a very small shopfront near Sukhumvit Soi 4 but when you go in the walls are covered with pics of Prime Ministers, movie stars and such from around the world. Gorgeous suits with hand-finished touches like hubby's name embroidered on the inside pocket, handstitched shirt collars etc.

Myself and my female colleagues mostly use Cotton House. They are in OP Place shopping centre which is behind the Oriental Hotel. They do all sorts of clothing and I've never been disappointed. I just picked up some pants yesterday 1,800 baht and they are a perfect fit.

Hi everyone,

sorry that I am digging up this old post but I am interested to know whether any one knows whether this lady Valaiporn is still there? I don't live here but frequently visit. I tried to call her before my last trip Bkk but was not successful.

Apart from Valaiporn and CP can anyone recommend other good ladies tailors (not the ones who mainly cater to tourists). I am desperately for looking for someone good who is not overly expensive. The best solution would be someone who makes clothes for Thai ladies.

Thanks a lot in advance,

kind regards,

shakun
