You may find that prices have in fact not changed at all! Although fuel surcharges have been removed, basic ticket prices have been increased.

As for their free seats; try to get a free seat for December to any of their destinations out of Thailand. Non available, only when you try to book for the middle of January are some free seats available.

Please read the OP carefully :o

Tartempion,

You are absolutely right! I hang my head in shame. :D

However, a couple of weeks ago they did advertise free seats from the first of December through to some time in the new year.

As I am due to do a visa-run before 22 December, I did try to book a "free seat". Non available until the middle of January '09.

I tried a BKK-Udon return comes out at 506B 1 15kg luggage included

Can't beat that! I booked a number of free fare tickets at about that price during the allowed period next summer. :o

I booked from Perth to Phuket (via KL) for next June. With an upgrade to XL seats for the long leg, and extra baggage allowance, I paid just over $A800. (possible to travel economy for about $A500)

The KL-Phuket return legs were a total of about 1,400 Thb. (Seats free, airport tax and admin making up the cost)

As another poster pointed out, they may have eliminated "fuel surcharges" but they are playing the usual airline game and have increased basic ticket prices. They'll get their money one way or another (same as governments and taxes). I've been watching ticket prices between Bkk and Chiang Mai for March 2009 and all the 499 Baht flights are now 990 Baht. How stupid do these business people think the general public is? There are no ethics in business today and it is hurting and will continue to hurt all societies where such deceptions are allowed to continue.

When will the international airlines lower their fuel charges.Oil prices are almost at the same level as before the rise started but fuel charges are at the highest level ever. :o

They certainlu cannot maintain that claim: the in Europe well-known low-cost airline-in fact their prime example- RYAnair also never-at least that was how they stated it-charged extra for fuel-and other as AirAsia they do offer genuine ''free'' flites-for 1 ct/p.-all taxes included-at some special times/destinations. f you have the right card of debit-card-also no extra charge for the privilege of being able to pay.

Next example of RYAN that hence AirAsia is likely to follow on: check-in cost money-avoid that by printing your boarding pass at home-and this laos means no checked luggage!

Alsoi in the USA charging extra for fuel was never the custom-hence their big problems to rase the fares when fule went up+up.

I tried to book FREE seats for August 2009 BKK-SNG-BKK but no FREE seats mate just decietful advertising methods from the part of Air Asia.

My total was around 5000 Baht something. I can get it cheaper with Tieger Airways or even Jetstar. Blatant lies - from Air Asia that's all. Needless to say, they won't have me as a customer anytime soon :D

What month?

Singapore in July and Macao in September. I find it an extremly good deal. The passenger departure tax at the airports is included as well which equals 2.000 THB for the two of us for each trip. But with promotions like this it is important to make quick decisions and book immediately - Macao had no more cheap tickets the day after I booked.

The prices are for two persons, Fred.

I found out of this promotion thanks to Thaivisa!

I bought two round trip tickets for next summer for 820 baht total. Cant beat that. Nice little trip to the big mango for just over 25 bucks for two. That and my hotel comp from the last time I was there it will be a inexpensive trip.

Yup the airline is playing games. They say they are lowering the fees but in fact they have raised the starting price. I have been watching the price for Bangkok to hat yai in April 17Th and K.L to Bangkok may 5Th for 5 months. The price almost double.I am a bit pissed off, I will look to see what else is available.

A good question, and one possible answer,

As global oil prices climbed beyond $150 a barrel several months ago, many international carriers started pre-buying bulk fuel, in fears that oil would reach $180 or higher. Now that fuel prices have droped dramatically, airlines are actually loosing money, because they are using the fuel purchased at the higher rate. Carriers like Northwest, have already lost over $5Bn on the cost of fuel for 2009. Keep a look out for slashed fuel surge charges, but increased base price, as airlines try to recover some of what has been lost in the oil fluctuation.

Cheers

Same for the BKK - Phuket route. Dropping the fuel surcharge makes for good marketing copy, but the net price paid for tickets is what really matters. From what I can see, on the BKK - HKT route, you will now pay more, on average, for a ticket on any given day than you would have paid when the fuel surcharge was in effect.

Dropping the fuel surcharge and increasing the base fares is nothing but a shell game.

For those who cannot get a free seat don't blame the airline, cos you don't expect the whole flight to be free, just the date you want to depart already taken up. Everyone knows that free seats are part of gimmicks used by the airlines as promotion. So, if can play with the departure and return dates and you will get it. :o

I got free seats to KUL and Clark without problems booking on 12NOV. For instance KUL-CRK return was only around 800 B return. So the offer was certainly genuine.

I think AirAsia Should be praised for removing Fuel surcharge as it is more honest to put all charges in the ticket price.

Correct. FUEL SURCHARGE DID NOT GO AWAY. What ever they put on as FUEL SURCHARGE has now been moved to the ticket. However I must praise them for being up front with new pricing method.

There are 2 more elements: Airport Tax & Admin.

AIRPORT TAX is collected on the behalf of the airport, i.e. a AirAsia do not pocket them, hence I believe it is OK to show separate. Remember the old time when you have to pay 500 Baht in cash at the airport just before immigration. ALso, NOT many people know this, but it is true. Airport charge the number of PAX thant check-in, not the number of tickets it sold. Hence if there is a NO SHOW, the money goes to the airline, and not the Airport. However, you can claim back this amount (minus a small handling fee from AirAisa) if you are a no-shower. It takes time, and I have done it.

ADMIN FEE, about 500 Baht per round trip. I don't really know what is this about. I hope they will bundle it into the Ticket price (just like the Fuel Surcharge), so as to be upfront with the PAX.

Thai Airways Drops Fuel Surcharge 50%, Effective Today

Due to the ongoing decline in fuel prices, Thai Airways International has announced a reduction of its fuel surcharge by almost 50 percent.

The fuel surcharge for all domestic routes has been cut from 700 baht to 400 baht per flight, with the exception of the Chiang Mai-Mae Hong Son route, which went down from 600 baht to 200 baht per flight, while the charge for all international routes has been reduced by almost 50 percent.

Vice President of Thai Airways' Commercial Flight Division Pantit Chanapai stated that the committee has revised the fuel surcharge now that the oil prices are dropping, in hopes of attracting more customers.

With the reduction, the fuel surcharge has been adjusted to 49.50 dollars for Osaka-Bangkok and 89.50 dollars for Los Angeles-Bangkok.

Meanwhile, Air Asia is giving away 100,000 plane tickets as part of a regional marketing campaign to woo tourists to Thailand.
